So my main toon is a tanking druid and I'm trying to figure out if I should be changing my gemming and gearing choices for Icecrown Citadel and the effects of
Chill of the Throne.
From what the designers have said, the end result of the decreased avoidance will make our incoming damage smoother over time, i.e., less dodging, less unpredictable spikes in damage. The underlying assumption is that higher boss damage one would expect moving into a harder raid instance is scaled down a bit to allow for Chill of the Throne.
Now my assumption here is that we should target our stats of choice in the same way as we always have. 20 of our dodge percentage points are ignored -- subtracted off the bottom, if you will. I have heard the argument that one should avoid stacking for dodge because it is "worth less" due to DR (diminishing returns). But this argument just doesn't make sense to me. I realize that a point of agility when my dodge is at 50% does not provide as large an increase as when my dodge is only at 30%. And I realize the DR effect calculates the amount of dodge I get from agility based on the dodge percentage I have before Chill of the Throne subtracts 20% off the bottom. But if I were to switch to stacking stamina, I'm still losing dodge no matter what and will take more damage.
I just don't see any real reason to change anything. Right NOW, my increases in agility are subject to the exact same DR effect. Yet I still take what Agility I can.
Greatness is still great for me. But I do have some items to use that won't be affected by DR so much, such as
Indomitability and
Signified Ring of Binding. I don't know, I see Chill of the Throne as a developer-side mechanism to fix the stat inflation problem that caused high avoidance, leading to spikey damage and healing issues. I don't see this as a reason to change gearing tactics. Am I wrong?
