If you honestly want a heroic set...
Im going to make you a profile of a good heroics set.
Back in a bit.
(hint: block rating/value is king for heroics)
Edit:
Here
ya go.
over 33% block rating... and each block will absorb over 3500 damage.
only 27K unbuff health... but there isn't a single heroic that you wont breeze through with minimal healing required.
Edit2:
Here
is a more realistic set. Blocks just only 2140 damage ber block (26% chance) and only has 25K unbuff health...
BUT this doesn't require raid drops.... just badges and some heroic drops.
MUCH more attainable.

I'm currently working on a block set myself, to see if it will be effective for Anub hard mode add tanking. Our warrior already tanks all 4 adds at the same time with his block set, which I have to say is a little ridiculous...but whatever.
I only wanted to add that some of the pieces that you have listed here come from almost full clears of 25 man ulduar. So even tho that is a really good set Val....it might be a little bit out of reach from "elesham"
Keep in mind the gear will be limited to reg/heroic drops and (non-raid) emblems.
I'll try my hand at a set brb.
Cheers,
Hat

Yup yup. Nice second edit. Val
Its a good place to start. And then as you get more epics from heroics flip them in and out and see if the stam gain works for you or not. Its amazing how much block value will help in a heroic. But remember that 40% of your un-hit-able block value stems from Holy shield. If your taking more than 1 blocked hit a second your block rating is going to fall off when the buff falls off. Should be no problem for bosses, but just be careful how hard you pull trash with fast hits, or trash that stuns you.
Cheers,
Hat
Oh, I forgot. One of the biggest dangers when tanking...is getting to like tanking more than your ret set :-P we'll see you back here when you want tips on how to step out of the heroics and into the raids :-)

You don't need a specific gearing strategy to rock heroics.
This.
22k+ hp and 535 defense and you are g2g.
Of course, scrubs will $%^&* and moan how you don't have 40k hp and can't hold threat off their 6k dps, but those are the true minimums and thats where I started (although 25k shouldn't be too hard to obtain outside of heriocs)
Just tell people that you've just started gearing and to wait a few seconds before unleashing.
I assure you that gearing as i suggested will make the run much easier.
You keep seing this
trinket
because it is one of the only trinkets in the game that gives you block value.
And block value is where its all at for heroics.
The reason we add +str gems is 2 fold.
1st: +str adds a lot to your threat generation.
2nd: it also adds to your block value... which is what the whole build is based on.
P.S.
paladingod , Like you mentioned high stamina values help... but for these fast/weak (relatively) hitting bosses/trash... BV and BR are king.
The OP already said he had a good tank set... but wants to know where to focus to improve just for heroics.
This is by far the best route to be most effective for heroics.
Elesham,
Remember that these sets will only work in raiding on trash.
For raid bosses, definitely use the dodge pieces instead.
Edit:
should you decide to tank raids.

I've created a
pre-raid tank
profile some time ago.
Anything you can put here to upgrade it will be only better.
Right now running this set with minimal upgrades, in situations with only physical damage incoming, I need very little healing. Pulling both metalworker packs in UK isn't a problem, for example. If group is well tied and know what to *not* do (a rare joy in my runs), healers even complaining that they could as well go DPS - so little work is left for them.

Since it hasn't been said yet....
and understand the 535 defense target
\(^o^)/ someone who really does understand it! /cookieforyou!
*cough* ok, back to your regular programming :P

^ This. I raid as ret and badge farm as prot (easier to get into groups). I have raided as prot with the guild but only the easy stuff when we are gearing up new members. The other day our MT (warrior) was away so I stepped into the MT role for our weekly runs. I am hoping they pick me again this weekend for a tanking position. I want more...

I tank for my guild maybe 95% only going Ret for farm content. I have to change my macro's on grid because if I'm not paying attention I will naturally taunt anything that's not on me :-P lol. Unless you 100% hate tanking because of the pressure or what not, its a pretty good chance that you'll prefer tanking to DPSing.

Hat

Just want to point out that in my links above.. i added in talents and glyphs.
Not sure if you noticed or not.
One of the big differences is that you should have SA filled out for heroics.
Itll help a bunch with downtime.

Instead of 2/2 SA, simply do 1/2 SA and turn around or sit down during trash sometimes. DP will make up for the rest.

The 1/2 SA is for raiding, as the tremendous ammounts of incoming heals will keep you fresh.
I'd keep 2/2 SA for a just-heroics set. Why add the extra step of sitting down when 1 talent point will cover ya?
Besides, you aren't losing much..
I also maxxed out divinity and threw some points into reckoning.
Feel free to remove from reckoning and add into conviction if you so choose.
(remember this isn't for raid tanking... this definitely wouldn't be the setup for that)
