The reason she got hacked was because she had gotten in-game gold a month pre-hand.
That has nothing whatsoever to do with it, unless of course she was idiotic enough to give them her login/pw, in which case it was only a matter of time until she got hacked anyway, since she'd be a complete moron.

I have to agree. They only do the ban hammer for /emotes when it's those idiots who have the /spit macro'ed to do it multiple times in a row and spam it up.

It is always amazing that people will say "I didnt do anything wrong to get banned" but we the Wowhead community are only allowed to hear the posters side of the story. I am sure there is a very small percentage of people who are wrongly accused.
The Xbox360 forums ar emuch the same. People who state they didnt do anything wrong but it is funny when the admins can prove they directly watched them doing it. So we are just expected to believe only the posters side of the story.
I have bought guilds before especially those with 4-6 bank tabs sometimes up to 3000 gold due to th fact they left probably that amount of stuff in the tabs. Thowing a large sum of gold at someone does not get you flagged. Throwing large amounts of gold 2-3 times per week to random people will get you noticed. I think Blizz is smart enough to figure out"Hey he just threw 4000 gold to another guildy or to his alt" that isnt a gold seller. Sometimes it woud be cool to see all the evidence that lizz has on people so a rational decision can be made in our own minds/

Use authenticator. No guarantee's, but one more obstacle.
Anyone who breaks into my authenticator-enabled account without stealing my authenticator (or hacking into Blizzard's servers, which means we have far greater problems) will get a standing ovation from me, especially considering the lag my wireless generates often invalidates a key before the login request goes through.

Get an authenticator. It adds a second layer of security to your account:
1) something you know (username and password)
2) something you have (the authenticator - basically an
RSA SecurID
)
3) something you are (biometrics - maybe in the future blizz ;} )
As to how accounts get hacked, I'm not entirely convinced that it's the user's machine that's been hacked in all cases. Questioning some haxxored friends of mine about their browsing habits and running scanners and sending me hijackthis reports revealed nothing of any kind running locally. A paranoid man would suspect Blizzard's login routine of being insecure, or even their own organization compromised.
