Use authenticator. No guarantee's, but one more obstacle.
This.
Making your password "brute-force-proof" is going to extraordinary efforts for little gain. The fact is very few wow accounts are hacked by brute force. The vast majority are compromised by keyloggers.
Do yourself a favour, get an authenticator. Use an idiodically
stupid
simple password and rest easy in the knowledge that they'll need physical access to your keyring/iPhone, knowledge of your battle.net account name
and
knowledge of your battle.net password to be able to gain access to your wow account.

Mayhaps its just me
....
I suspect that the vast, and I mean 99.99% of people who got banned or hacked, simply deserved it.
Sure hope it never happens to you. Because I am 99.99% sure you have never been tricked and know more about computer security than everyone else...
I have never been tricked. I am also sure I do not know more then most people regarding security. I use the basic net security providers as anyone else.
Here is the thing...being "tricked" isn't about being some complete innocent victim. You put yourself in a situation that created it. The person either went onto a website that many people know as common sense have capabilites to keylog and other such crap. Or people get involved to some degree with gold selling, and maybe don't even complete the transaction but get far enough along that they are now a target. Also ebay...people who exchange some info on sites like ebay can become targets as now the other guy has info on your account.
If you don't want to be tricked its not hard. Its not rocket science. There are fake emails and bad sites. Don't go to them or click them. My 9 year old nephew can tell you as much.
I have never had a single security issue and neither has anyone I know (except a few who actually did something stupid) because of those basic rules. I don't buy gold. I don't go to those websites and explore them. I have never "looked into" those violative things. And I don't click on emails that look even remotely suspicious. And I have never had an email from any company or even bank that wasn't either 1) expected or 2)fake. If it wasn't an email I was expecting or clearly said, "do not respond and do not give info" then it is absolutely a scam. Even so, anything done through email can first be varified by phone.
Again, basics. My 9 year old nephew can write down more if anyone likes.
you should get off your high hose people make mistakes.....i really hope you get banned then you'll be part of your own statistic

Although I am virtually never wrong I understand that there is a tiny, tiny chance that I may be wrong once in a very uncommon while.
Wow, that be some strong arrogance you be swiggin', matey.
Read the entire post. Or better yet, just the next five words.

Yes, I did see that. Just because it was a joke doesn't make him any less arrogant. That one sentence is hardly the only evidence of this.
Apologies both for quoting quotes within quotes and, in no way, contributing to the subject at hand, but I have to agree with Fyuu; Demonn is a chop of note.

On November 15, 2009 i tried login into wow and couldn't because blizzard banned me. Now i have never broken any rules in wow hell ive never even ninja anything. They banned me for buying gold which i did not do. I sent them a e-mail trying to defend myself to see if they can see where they made there mistake. I explain to them if i were to buy gold wouldnt u think i would have my epic flyer, be geared for 25 man toc, be geard for pvp, or even have both my professions max out. It sucks i mean i spent time playing this game as well as spending money to keep playing and now it was all for nothing. I really hope they fig out where they made there mistake. So now the point to my thrread is, has anyone else been banned for wow due to something you haven't done?
Did you make sure and merge your account into a battlenet account? because the deadline was the 12th of november. and if you didn't then you wouldnt have been able to log in.

Since then I have installed nearly everthing named "anti-spy" on my PC.
What a terrible idea! Half the time, it's things with the phrase "anti-spy" it its' names that are actually compromising your computer!

I would have banned you for the same reason. Come on, you cannot really think that transaction doesn't look completely suspicous?
I'm pretty sure gold-sellers wouldn't go through all the trouble just to sell 2k gold.
Mabey, but them mailing it to you sounds much more likely.

/agree.
For the best protection you want 1 anti-virus (Yes 1! 2 or more anti viruses would tend to work aginst each other) a good fire wall and of course a good Ad ware program. Get those and you should be good, course accidents do happen.

Actually that's
100% guarantee
that the account won't be hijacked ever again. The hacker would need to get his hands on the account password AND guess a 8 digit number that changes each 60 seconds, GLHF! Only way then it for blizz to help him unhook the authenticator from the account and that would take him forging a fake ID and all, one more GLHF.

First of all a 9 year old can't type and it doesn't know grammar
,second being "tricked" it means a person wich he/she was in a trap with out knowing it,if he did know it then he would not being tricked.
Are *you* a 9 yo? If not, get off your high horse about children being idiots (and that is the implication of what you said). My 10 yo plays WoW better than many quite a bit older than she, she types (as does my 9 yo) and her grammar, though not good, is better than yours.
As far as getting "hacked," I was once but caught the perp in the act so there was little chance that something that would get my account banned would happen. I followed up with all the things Blizz said to do but no keylogger was found. I had visited an account selling website (saw an ad, wondered what kinds of prices they went for). I don't know what the time frame was between my visit and the stranger logging into my account. I won't visit those sites now because after that I learned that just looking at them can get your account compromised.
I now have an authenticator on both of my WoW accounts and wouldn't be without one for any account (bank, paypay, etc) that has it available.

I got banned after my first week of playing. Heck I didn't even know what they were talking about when they told me I had been "gold farming." They put my account back right away as it was obvious I had been hacked. 2 weeks later I was banned again for the same thing. This time I had to explain what I did to secure my account/computer and in the mean time I purchased an authenticator. It took a week, but got my account back. 2 days after I got my account back I got an email confirming that I wanted to change my password. I had made no such request. When I called them I found that the hackers had tried to get into my account again but thankfully the authenticator stopped them. But, it appears that they had hacked my email account and tried to change the password. I changed everything and since then have had no problems. Good luck. And to the guy who thinks that 99.99% of us deserve it? Well, let's just say this. YOUR WRONG.

I am not going to keep at this. You all know my thoughts. I am just trying to get my point across that IMO the majority if not all of the wrongfully banned people are in fact guilty and just don't admit it.
Proof? Oh yeah you don't need proof because you are a hopeless fanboi. Would be hilarious if Blizzard accidently banned you, i'm sure your tune would change that second.
ITT: Fanboi sheep who forget that humans make mistakes, and yes humans work at Blizzard Entertainment.
