Care to speak upon the actions of your fellow brothers in religion that blow themselves and other people up? What does the Quaran (sp?) have to say on those types of actions? What about the guy that went and killed all those people in Fort Hood recently for Islam?

I'm with Queggy on this one. I mean, there's plenty of media beat up about how suicide bombers believe that they've been promised 40 virgins in the afterlife and so on so forth, but really, what is there in the Quran? And which parts are being interpreted so differently by different groups, so as to result in such violence?
Edit:

I tried... I really tried to post something not related to terrorism, but this^^^^ happened. I am not a Muslim but I find it deplorable that the first thing people think when they see the word Islam, Muslim, or Arab, is
Terrorism
seriously this is a philosophical thread not politics.. go somewhere different to be a bigot Queggy.
Exactly where I thought it was going to go the moment I saw this.
I see this thread turning into flame after flame after lock...
See my spin on it. I see nothing wrong with asking the question. After all, religious fanatics are taking their justification from the Quran, so it's worth looking at what bits of the Quran they're actually using, and going back to the original text.

I'm not trying to be a bigot or start flames or anything, I'm sorry if you viewed it as such. I am merely curious as to whether or not the Quaran has anything to say about the acts of violence such as the extremists are committing.
Once again, I'm not trying to flame anyone, I am just curious.

QFT.
Are there actually promises in the Quran that say if you kill nonbelievers you get 40 virgins when you go to heaven?

it's less than 1% of muslims who actually would do this. It's not a major part of the religion, islam, for the most part, emphasizes peace..
THAT'S MY POINT!
I'm asking a follower of the religion what his religion has to say on the subject! Is it a prevalent topic among the faith? Is it only discussed among the people hiding out on the fringes? That's what I'm trying to find out!
Once again, I am not trying to flame anyone or anything, I am merely trying to find out more about the religion.
Edit - Thanks for answering the question Rexiselic.
Yes, there are Christian extremists too, but the sad fact is that the Muslim ones are the ones in the limelight right now. I myself do not condone the actions of extremist Christians either.

Their version of Islam is perverted nearly beyond recognition and I don't give much weight to what they say is right or wrong.
Just following up on this point - do you mean that thier interpretation is different, or are they actually following a different written version of the Qu'ran?
I don't suppose you'd be able to cite an example, would you?

From what little i know, extremists have just added two facts. The sacrifise of a uncle? which basically says that self-sacrifise is good and that defending your religion is good= go bomb evil americans. From what i've heard at least
Media sensationalism. Sorry if you think I'm sounding rude, but unless you can back it up with sources or theory, then your 'facts' are full of crap. (See sig.)

This is not a bigoted statement. "A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices." He is simply asking questions. It seems the bigoted people are the ones so devoted to being tolerant, they are unwilling to hear him out.

Before I continue, let me just say, thanks for the reasoned discussion. I'm sure Queggy and others appreciate it too.
Taking the concept of Jihad - I can see how, for example, a hijacker of one of the 9-11 flights, can see their actions as an attempt to fight to defend themselves/homeland/etc. That's not too far of a stretch.
In the Qu'ran, does it outline rules for jihad? In the Christian Bible, murder is absolutely prohibited, for example, so any fight to defend oneself would need to be non-lethal, or you'd need to qualify the definition of 'murder'. If someone poses an immediate threat to you, are you empowered to kill them?
