Okay, so not WoW itself, but the skills one learns from it could still be mentioned. Cool.
At least I asked.

Personally, I think that the whole stereotyping against people who play WoW is plain stupidity. That's not to say I don't understand how it might come about. But people spend there leisure hours in all kinds of different things and
can
build skills through those hobbies. Why can't "video games" be any different?
That's not to say that there are some people who just wish it gave them skills. I'm a little doubtful that theorycrafting is really much of a skillset builder; it seems more like an "I can do math, see?" experience. If you happened to do something like mathematically calculate a raid's success level with reasonable accuracy, that might fall into a different category. Running the auction house, although it may portray some truth about one's financial wisdom, probably wouldn't be quite a stable reflection of a person's economic experience simply due to the fact that the WoW economy works in a quite different manner from the real-world economy. However, raid leadership (probably not participation) would probably have a good amount of real-world value. Raid leading involves organizing large, competing groups of people to work together to overcome difficult challenges. In many ways, a raid leader is similar to a business leader.
As a final note, I'd like to say that my perspective is not one of a theorycrafter, AH wizard, or raid leader. I could be called unbiased, but I could also be labeled as one lacking perspective.
