The decisions you made since birth were results from other events that occurred prior to that, and prior to that... etc, all the way to the big bang. I think linear stories are a lot more accurate - in reality you don't just to decide to murder a bunch of people just for fun (unless you were previously building up to that), you do what you would do.

you hit the nail so badly I think you may have broken the table xD.
and BTW I love to feel like playing a movie, but that's what action games are there for (like the awesome Metal Gear Solid, or Broken Sword) but for RPG's I love to be able to CHOOSE.
I think choise is important on an RPG, because on real-life you don't have a path set ahead of you, you are the sum of all the desitions you've made since birth, and to a certain degree it should be the same on RPG's.
now, don't get me wrong, Square's games are awesome, and I love them, a looooooooooot.
but they are not the kings of RPG;'s bioware is.
as legendary as the final fantasy saga (and other square RPG's) are , they just can't compare to Baldur's gate, Neverwinter, Mass effect, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, and Kotor.
Do you believe in fate?
I'll give the same answer neo did.
I don't like the idea that I'm not in controll of my own destiny, that some invisible hand moves me through my life.
this goes for videogames too, I just like to be in charge, is not so bad to play a linear game (as I said, metal gear solid is linear 100%, and it's one of the best stealth action games ever) but if i get to choose from a lineal game and a freedom-based game, I choose freedom.

well zanzi, I gotta say I got 40 hours+ of gameplay and have completed barely 43% of the game thus far. this is a MASSIVE game.
and as I said before, it's a must-have.
it doesn't matter if u're a fan of bioware games or not, this game is a diamond, covered in gold, and silver, with a creamy saphire topping.
there is only 1 complain i got about this game (make no mistake, I LOVE THIS GAME, I aint gonna come back to wow till I beat this game at least 3 more times) but there is 1 minor flaw here.
unlike other bioware games, there is no alingment tracking here, there is no bar to let you know how good/evil you are, or any lawfull/neutral/chaotic good/neutral/evil scale here, there is a diferent system
rather than tracking how good or evil you are, the game just lets you be, your party members however, react diferently to your actions.
so depending on what party members you got, and what actions you are doing, you can lose influence with them, or straight out have them become hostile and be forced to kill them.
while this is intresting, it has a fatal flaw, you can buy them back with gifts.
I mean, I'll use 1 example:
1 party member called Leliana, she's a good-ie-do-good kinda girl, who loves compasionate acts of selflessness and mercy as well as goodness and love, and will react negatively when you're selfish, ruthless, merciless, a jerk and a royal-class S.O.B.
on one specific spot, a beggar asks me for gold, rather than helping him out, I killed him for his insolence, Leliana imidietly get's all mad, saying how cruel I am, and how a monster I am for killing that poor beggar, but then I buy her a pair of shoes and she's all like "OMG Shoooooooes, thank you so much! they are so pretty! I love you i love you, we're best friends/lovers for ever and ever ^_^"
-.- this detracts a lot of realism from the game, since all party members are frivolus enough that you can buy their affection to you with gifts that make them forgive you ANYTHING, I mean you can call Morrigan a "heartless bitter angry creepy B1tch" (with those specific words) on a conversation, and she of course get's mad at you, but then you buy her a diamond mirror, and all is forgiven.
same goes for male party members too, is not just the women who drool over gifts.
this is the ONLY negative feature of the game, because so far, really, this game is incredible, no words can do it justice.

well.......... is oficial, this game is for the records.
I just finished it, and LOVED IT! O_O it's AWESOME.
if there's any soul in here that has not played this game, GET IT NOW, NOW DAMMIT NOW!.
it's beutifull, has kickass graphics, an awesome plot, superb voice acting, exelent party members and a hillarius comic relief
I mean just look at this line:
"is this the part were we're shocked to learn you have no friends?"
"i can be friendly if I want to, alas, in your case, wishing to be smarter will not make it so"
xD awesome.
or how about this one?
"what would you do if your mother died?"
"you mean before or after I stoped laughing?"
"riiiiight very creepy forget i asked"
what amazes me more is how open-ended this game is.
everywere you go, whatever you do, you allways get multiple choises on how to do any given quest, or how to complete any given obstacle.
this game is a 100 out of 10 on my books, and after finishing it for the first time, I can say it's worth at least 2 more playthroughs (the best part being that having over 6 backstorys to choose from, at a multitude of ways to go about the plot, you can play this game up to 3 times, and have a diferent plot and outcome in all 3 of them)

I played FF1-3. I enjoyed them. I moved on.
I played Baldur's Gate 1-2. I enjoyed them. I played them again. And again. And again. As a matter of fact I've been playing Baldur's Gate for 11 years and I still have saves from 11 years ago that I go back to.
If you think a game beats another game for the sole reason it came out 8 years earlier, you're too old to have an opinion about video games.

The amount of times I've played FFVII-IX and KH1&2 from start to finish.
Opinions, they're different
