Prot isnt really viable in pvp. To get the most out of shieldslam i have to resort to outdated gear,2 set t7 tank set, bv blues from heroics. If i try using spare slots on pvp gear my strength and crit (even if thats all there are on them besides stamina and ressilience) goes abyssmally low.
The only option i have to do any noticable damage and be able to crit those guys in relentless gear , more than once in a decade, i have to use a mix of block value gear and pve dps gear.
So to do any real damage i have 0 ressilence, and my health drops lower than a hunter in pvp gear, making me squishier than everyone else. Low avoidance, low everything defensive (a prot warrior should be hard to kill) just to be able to kill anything.
Ever tried nuking down a high ress healer in full tank gear? Its impossible, they can just laugh at you, heal themselves up and you cant even outdamage their mana regeneration. And geared so i can kill them, im gimped to be even more squishy than they are.
Why cant blizz give me (and others) a proper block value pvp set? Ressilence, crit, strength, stamina and blockvalue, with 2 set bonus 10% more damage on shieldslam, and 4 set bonus 10% additional crit chance with devastate. Shamans get 3 sets, paladins probably got 1000 sets...why am i stuck with a lame arms set with so low strength that it requires a 2her to damage stuff with?
Yes sure, i can do hefty damage on pve geared targets...4k devastate followed by 12k shieldslam followed by another 4k devastate is fun, but even the noobiest Jenkins dk has full pvp gear on in pvp these days.

Are you nuts ?
The prot warrior is probably the most ANNOYING SPEC IN ALL THE GAME for any casters.
Let's just take a look at all your potential interupts:
- Shield bash
- Heroic throw
- Revenge proc
- Conc.blow
- Shockwave
- Charge
- Intercept
If you catch a resto druid out of HotS, you can down him 100% to 0% without allowing him to cast a SINGLE hot.
Prot pvp is good, very good. Just use Arp and PvP gear. SBV gear was good before the nerf.

But pvp gear is so lamely itemized. It has crit and strength (both good stats) but so extremely little of them. With full pvp gear, gemmed with arp, my shieldslams will crit for like... what..4k? 4k tops. My devastates will hit like a wet noodle. Just compare pieces like:

to:

Even tanking bracers have better damage stats than pvp gear, not really true, but almost.
The necks, cloaks and rings dont even have strength on them, meaning even less block value, and no scaling with vitality.
In pvp gear i would have no avoidance, low damage and survivability equal to a arms warrior, (who actually can dps somewhat in his specc).
And yes prot pvp is really fun, but it bugs me that i have to choose so extremely, either good survivability or descent damage, cant have both. Ret paladins have both, dks of any specc too, i want that.

Forget the block value!
Shield slams are no longer your main threat. Stunlocks and silence locks are. (well dispells are still very nice, arms cant dispell anything).
Arms can dps but cant cast two silences (one being ranged), practically has no interrupt (Overpower doesnt count), his mobility requires severe stance dancing, nor all the anoying stuns.
Imp Spellreflect and Safeguard are also extremly usefull for your partner Survival. So is Imp Disarm.
Check recent Murth video
, he isnt wearing any single tanking piece, has low resi (380 or so), but his AP and general offensive stats are higher than Arms warrior in his 3vs3 team, while he is wearing a shield.
If you check this you you will see that his main source of damage is Dev/HS spam (both glyphed and max talented for 9 rage cost and 15% additional crit).

Why would you compare an ilvl 200 PvP piece to an ilvl 232 PvE piece. How about you compare
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40890
to
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47572
. Basically you are giving up Armor Pen for Resilience. That's the tradeoff you make with PvP gear...

Just started playing my prot warrior again, and I absolutely adore PvPing again. Nothing really to add. I remember when I decided to start PvPing with him a couple months ago, it seemed like I couldn't find many fans of the spec, but it's good to see more enthusiasm for it here. Thanks for the video links, always great to watch, and a good reminder that I really need to learn how to stancedance.
