I am an Enchanter. I used to announce prior to the first boss that I do DE, and I will DE the blues if nobody wants "need if you need to use it, pass otherwise, we'll roll on shards at the end."
With the advent of boss loot allowed to be traded between the group, I no longer bother offering. Just because I'm lazy. If I feel motivated, or I like the group, I will announce at the end of the group, "I can DE the loot you won if you'd like."
That's my choice. However, being unable to chose if I want to contribute my Enchanting skill is quite unfair. First of all, if I want to sell the mats I create while DEing, I can do that. I only have to compete with other enchanters. That keeps the pricing fair. If non-enchanters have ready access to the same mats I create, it inflates the supply and reduces prices to where I'm not making any profit.
Some people are complaining that they have to buy the mats off the AH in order to get their gear enchanted. What's your point? Most Enchanters I know will offer their ability "free with your mats" because they don't want to waste their stockpile of mats except for use on themselves or their guildies. The only way they're making a profit is from tips. Not much different than other professions.
Some people are complaining that Enchanting and its mats are an exception because the enchants are required for end-game. The crux of the matter is that I don't think any other raid/imperative skill using mats to the extent that enchanting does. If after a guild raid run, guildies are looking for enchants for their upgrades, you can nearly wipe out one bank bag's worth of enchanting mats. Then the enchanter has to restock. How do you restock, you have to go back out and kill things, hoping for greens to drop. Or you could go about DEing abyss shards, of course you have to go into heroics/raids and hope you win the rolls on mats or loot to DE. Works fairly well for guilds that can just run the enchanter through normal ToC to farm Abyss Crystals. But screw it if you're pugging.
Contrast this to say a Herb/Alchemist. All they have to do is go on a farming spree for herbs. Flying around on their mount watching their mini-map. Dedicate an hour or so per week and you've got your raid covered for that week and maybe more.
TL;DR: As an enchanter, I currently have a say how much I want to flood the mats market, as much as any other profession. After the patch, I will have no say in how my profession is being used and I will gain less benefit from having it.

If this works the way I understand it's going to work, where the DE option is just a different form of a greed-based /roll, then I don't see a problem with it. It saves me time if I'm running an instance on my enchanter of having to DE everything, then have everyone stay around and roll if they want shards at the end of a run. This way, if you want to greed on an item to sell, you just greed roll. If you want shards/dust/essences, then you greed DE roll and all it does is utilize my enchanter's skill to destroy the item and just give you the DE mats. It doesn't really take away from anything as whoever rolls the highest greed-based roll still wins the item, just if you choose the DE option then you get the dust/essence/shard instead of the item to vendor. It should honestly make runs go even faster and give more folks better access to enchanting mats.
I do it for folks I run with anyways if they want their greens/blues/whatever DE'ed at the end of a run anyways, so this option just makes things go even faster. I like it.

Make yourself items to DE or buy them from the AH! Cheapest way to get mats! You don't need instance runs, as that is a pretty slow way to get mats.
Tailors, LW, BS, JC, Eng, ect all make items that can DE and some are really really cheap to make!
So in other words, making Enchanting the only profession that must buy its own mats from the AH, or have to buy junk from the AH in order to make mats? I thought people were comparing it to other gathering professions. They get to just run around finding nodes for farm. We have to spend money to get our mats?
