Usually in yellow slots you go 1st hit rating till capped then haste till soft cap (400) then crit. I believe as far as gem goes you benefit more when applying this sequence .
That's what the elite say anyway so it must hold some truth.

Gem a Potent Ametrine in a yellow socket if: It yields a +5 spellpower or greater socket bonus, and you have 400+ haste. If under 400 haste, use a Reckless Ametrine.

So basically, I shouldn't be worried about my crit so much?
Not until after you have 400 haste.

The probelm with gemming for crit or haste (and even hit) is that those gems affect your stats by a very small percentage, especially the hybrid gems. Sometimes gemming for raw spell power is your best dps increase and just being selective in your gearing choices especially trinkets.

The difference between one gem or the other will indeed always be quite small. That being said, it all adds up and those small differences do end up helping on dps. Also more crit helps reduce the RNG of our rotation with isn't a bad thing either.
The main gem you want to use is +23sp, since sp is our best stat (once hit capped).
The second stat you want to use is either haste (if you are under 400) or crit (if you are over 400 haste). If you use epic gems, it is indeed beneficial to go for socket bonuses that are at +5sp or over (if it's just one gem, or 1 red + 1 yellow) because the combined spellpower value and crit/haste will give a slightly better result than just 23 sp (ie 10haste or crit is better than 6 sp).
