By backup I assume you mean "copy the entire world of warcraft folder"?
If so, then there are a few things to consider:
1. Vista (and win7) both use program file protection. This means that any time a program tries to write to it's folder location inside of Program Files, it will instead write to a different location. This messes with WoW's interface system. The easiest fix is to just not copy wow into your program files directory, and instead copy it to someplace like C:\Games
2. The WoW Launcher (launcher.exe) will not re-create file paths/registry information etc. This can cause errors when first launching WoW once it's been copied. If you experience errors launching the program after copy, simply run WoW.exe directly (you should only have to do it once). That will re-create all of the appropriate system information.

Do what Wanderingfox said and you should have any problems.
I did exactly that, and every thing works fine.
Has a boost of FPS (~60->80 idle, ~15-30 in raids) upgrading from XP to Win 7, so you have something to look forward to.
