Leave at least 1 person in the room to know where their flag carrier is going. Zerg him and cap.

1) 3 people stay in your flag room to give trouble to FC. (1 healer, a SV hunter and a enh shaman/frost DK preferably)
2) People in middle always stay in group (More > Alone)
3) Kill healers first
4) Control Tunnel Exit and bottom of opponent GY
5) Always have 1-2 players inside opponent FR to grab flag as soon as they respawn
This is a winning strategy

3 men in base guarding flag, 2 men grab flag up front. 5 men in the middle.
What if these 5 men encounter a group of 9-10 opponents? they won't be able to withstand that blow?
and after wiping out that 5 men the 9-10 men group could proceed to wipe the next 3 guarding the flag room.
1) This is very unlikely to happens. Most of time you will alway have 1-2 loner trying to solo the flag room. And the others will rezz at interval and jump down their GY just to die.
2) In the worst case the 5 men in the middle would just need to fallback to the FR.

My tip is to vary your exit point. Don't always take the tunnel; everybody always takes the tunnel. You'd be amazed by the number of players that rez at the graveyard looking toward the other base, never look behind them, and immediately barrel over the ledge to get back to the fight.
Mages and Death Knights make awesome flag assists - all those snares / freezes / interrupts are huge for protecting the FC.
The job of the flag defenders is not strictly to prevent the enemy from capping the flag. It's to slow their exit from the base so that the returning FC and his entourage can obliterate the enemy flag carrier while they're still close by the cap point - if you're outnumbered on defense, Fan of Knives that crippling poison everywhere, CoC, Nova, whatever you can to keep them from escaping.
Of course, just as important here as anywhere, kill the healer, or at least shut him up until you can down the enemy FC.
