You're nit picking is getting into the way of there ever being an interesting conversation. Pretending that you are so smart because you force people to argue the way you want them to, essentially handicapping them, will not give you a discussion. Honestly Hyper, people are allowed to argue and make their points however they want, and you making people do these types of things does not allow this thread or many others to grow. I will ask this again, what actions has Obama done, that are seen as socialist that have in fact harmed the country?
You can't have a rational conversation without nitpicking the details.
So again I ask you, what do you mean by socialist? Most of the thread derailment has been because of people not agreeing on what socialist meant.

I don't know if an argument over the meaning of socialist is derailment, considering that whether or not something is something totally depends on the definition of the second "something".
I know it isn't. But Lost seems to think so, so I'm asking him for a definition.

But if I say socialism means X you will argue, but in Country Y they have this and it is seen as socialism. If I give the dictionary version, that would be seen as incorrect because politics is too dynamic to fit into this discussion. No matter what I do Hyper, you are just going to make my choice look incorrect by dissecting a perfectly good and valid statement by using obscure quotes, references, and examples just because you think every rational discussion should be an argument of word choice not what facts and points are being presented.
I don't know why this is so complicated.
Either you phrase your question like this: "Assuming socialism is x, does Obama fall under that category?
Or discussing what is meant by socialism
is
on topic.

I had a nightmare about this thread last night. Obama was wearing a straw hat, overalls, a plaid shirt, and was riding a tractor. He was in a bunch of fields behind us, plowing, planting seeds, etc. He owned the land. He was working it toward growing something. We were arguing whether or not Obama was a farmer or not. I was trying to point out that he WAS a farmer, but everyone else was against me. You all were saying that he wasn't because he wasn't a farm. I was trying to point out the differences between a farmer and a farm and how you all didn't make sense. However, whenever I tried to talk, nothing came out of my mouth. You all laughed at me. It was horrible.

How was the red herring on your farm?

His farm, not mine. He is a socialist, because he fits the definition of socialist. We could always change that definition... to something like "Overflowing glass of blueberries and orange juice". Well, as we all know... Obama is certainly not an overflowing glass of blueberries and orange juice. So, in that definition, he is not a socialist. However, that is not the definition of socialist. That would be silly, much like half of this thread.
You all have done it this time. Your idiocy has given me nightmares.

I don't see it. Explain how an act of wealth distribution, which is done in some shape way or form by all presidents, makes one a socialist. Because once you start going that far, you start straying from what one means when they say socialist in every day speech. You can prove carrot = airplane through whatever means pleases you, but when I see a carrot, that doesn't mean I'm going to associate it with an airplane.

Your asking me to explain why public ownership of wealth is socialism, which is the public ownership of wealth. How is this not supposed to give me nightmares? Plane = Carrot? Seriously?Maybe you should drink NightQuil tonight or warm up some milk. Insulting people because they have differing views than you is not too nice. It's not that I mean insult to anyone in particular.

Alright, public ownership of wealth = Barack Obama the President of the United States? Sounds pretty much like Carrot = Airplane to me.

Socialism is public ownership of wealth. Obama is a socialist, not socialism.

It's a dirty word because it ignores hard work and dedication, instead rewarding laziness and satisfaction with the status quo.
