Yes, because of fear.
Why do you keep saying that. Fear has nothing to do with whether you're carrying a gun or not.
No, but it has everything to do with other people carrying a gun.

Exactly. Which isn't the issue. Illegally owned guns are illegally owned gun...that's not going to change.

You said 'if I had a gun, I could have stopped these people from shooting someone'
you said that people would get guns illegally anyway.
to combine those statements: 'If I had a gun I could have stopped these people with illegal guns from shooting people'
which means basically the same thing, unless you are saying that if gun control was enforced these people wouldn't have had guns, in which case you're arguing against yourself.
'if you ban guns, people will get them illegally and because civilians won't be able to protect themselves, the mortality rate will increase' is what you claimed I said.
'If I had a gun I could have stopped these people with illegal guns from shooting people' is what you just inferred from my statements.
Please don't stick words into other people's mouths.

Point taken, though in the situation proposed by Demontis (everyone carrying a gun) I believe it is a very big issue.

Yes, but a gun can't be used to heal someone, it can only be used to hurt people, and if someone calls your bluff, you will have to shoot them, even if they were only trying to get money from you.
I have the hardest time understanding you examples. Is this an armed robbery, with the guy threatening to shoot? Shoot him then! He made it clear that he was willing to kill an innocent person, therefore he is not innocent anymore and you have very right to prevent him from doing so.

so, in order to not put words in your mouth, I'm going to ask you, if guns were made illegal, what do you think would happen to the mortality rate?
I don't make predictions. I look at statistics.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938. From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
12 months after gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars, these are the results:
1: Australia-wide, homicides up 3.2 percent.
2: Australia-wide, assaults up 8.6 percent.
3: Australia-wide, armed robberies up 44 percent

Are those gun only related stats?
Armed robbery can include knives, bats, lolipops, etc. The other 2 aren't exactly gun only crimes.

If everyone was carrying guns, the robber would have a harder time threatening someone. He might be more likely to shoot, rather than take the risk of his bluff being called.
How could the police identify the difference between someone who legally carries a gun and someone who illegally carries the gun?

How would that work?
They stop and ask every single person with a gun to show their license(s)?

People are to be assumed innocent until there is evidence to the contrary.
