Parallels between WoW and Lord of the Rings

Been thinking about this for a while. Both have humans fighting alongside dwarfs and elves, against orcs. Both have an all-powerful, seemingly invincible supervillain (The Lich King, Sauron), who has a powerful mage as their right-hand man (Kel'Thuzad, Sarumon), and another powerful mage who is dead keen to stop them in their tracks (Jaina, Gandalf). Both are based in fantastical renditions of earth (Azeroth, Middle Earth) with a specific evil stronghold as the ultimate goal (Icecrown, Mordor), and one all-controlling weapon that everyone both fears and lusts for (Frostmourne, The One Ring), which must be destroyed to restore order to the world. Both have Warriors, Paladins (Aragorn?), Magi, Hunters and Rogues (Gollum).
Yeah I know there's plenty of differences in the minor details and in the actual storylines, and I'm probably gonna get a whole bunch of nerdragers pointing all of them out to me, but I just wanted to throw it out there. Now go ahead and flame me. XD

Aragorn was ranger, whats survival hunter.
And about parallels, majority (if not all) of medieval fantasy stories are just rewrited version of LoTR/Hobitt. Mr. Tolkien defined the genre. Like Doom of FPSs.

Aragorn fits Paladin or Warrior much closer than Hunter in terms of WoW classes. When does he ever use traps or use ranged weapons? Now compare that to the number of times he fights with a big sword or heals people.
And you mean Wolfenstein 3D of FPSs, right?

You forgot the Eagles/Dragons.
The one thing Blizz didn't take from
Tolkien is the fact that there's no such thing as Dwarf women
, which Tolkien took from the Nordic Eddas. I think they should've upheld that one. Dwarf women are fugly.
Eh, hem?
In The Lord of the Rings Tolkien writes that they breed slowly, for no more than a third of them are female, and not all marry; also, female Dwarves look and sound (and dress, if journeying — which is rare) so alike to Dwarf-males that other folk cannot distinguish them, and thus others wrongly believe Dwarves grow out of stone. Tolkien names only one female, Dís. In The War of the Jewels Tolkien says both males and females have beards. ---Afaik Aragorn only heals Frodo and Faramir. I might have missed 1-2 people, but that doesen't make him a paladin.
A class isn't defined only by ingame skills, but also by the lorewise overview of the class. Aragorn travels the wide word, knows loads of different atuff and can interact with strange creatures. That kinda approaches him to a hunter, even tough he doesen't pew pew people with his bow, as you expected. I think he sets traps just as often as he heales people. of course, not small traps to catch some orc, but rather huge traps to catch armies/wizards/etc.
People should really start thinking about the classes from a lorewise PoV before making such posts.
"The hands of the King are the hands of a healer, and so shall the rightful king be known"
He's a healer, it doesn't matter how many times he's actually called upon to exercise it. It's kind of a big deal (because if he wasn't things would be quite different!).
He doesn't fit into ANY of the wow classes lore wise. You'd have to be silly to say so. I'm just saying he's more different from Hunters in Warcraft than he is Paladins.
I really enjoy how much icecrown looks like mordor. You can shout "ripoff" all you want but there are times where I just fly around and enjoy all the detail that they put into even the most remote parts of icecrown. It's an homage.

Wow, I've learnt a lot from this thread already, this is great! There's obviously a whole bunch of people here that know more about LotR than me.
Another thing I forgot to mention last night, is Galadriel more of a Druid or a Shaman?

All the elves are sort of a mix between the two, but her specific telepathy likens her more specifically to a Priest's in-game abilities.
There's already shape shifters in LotR, she's not one of them.

Eh, hem?
I stand corrected. I don't remember reading of any in the Eddas though, but I haven't read 'em in a few years. Funny, though. After reading that I'm reminded that the paper doll for Dwarves was the same for male and female in the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series.
Not to mention that in the Hobbit, it talks about female dwarves too. I believe when Thorin is giving the Goblin King their excuse.
As to other similarities:

And don't forget the human male joke.
