some opinions are not open for acceptance : that killing the ozone layer is more of a travesty than killing babies
THIS THIS THIS THIS!
It isn't just an OPINION, as if pepsi is better than coke. What he is putting forward is a warped and degrading view of humanity.

Some opinions aren't open for acceptance.
This is subjective though. What may be open for acceptance to some many not be for others. However the acceptance of someone else's opinion as
their opinion
should, in my mind, be universal.
You may not enjoy the idea, but no one is forcing you to agree with it. It's one thing to disagree with or ignore an idea, but it's another matter completely to ridicule said idea.
So, no opinions can be so extremely objectively false as to merit ridicule?
If it is my opinion that steamed broccoli pops out of french people's mouths every tuesday at 4pm, then that is perfectly acceptible?
It's acceptable to me as your opinion. I didn't say that it had to be true, logical, or even believable. It's just an opinion, everyone has one.

Would you find it acceptible if my opinion was that human life was worth less than horse manure?

Yes I would. I accept that it is your opinion even if I disagree with said opinion. It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp.

You're playing word games.
You said 'yes, you will accept
it
.' Then you said you would accept 'that it is your opinion.' Those are 2 completely different things.
I accept that there is a whole group of people in the world who believe the world is flat. I DO NOT however accept that the world is flat is valid as an opinion.

I'm not playing word games. All I'm saying is that the acceptance of an idea as someone's opinion need not coincide with your own opinions and beliefs.
All you have to accept is that everyone has an opinion about just about everything.
Example-
Person1: I believe the world is flat.
Person2: Okay. I don't agree, but that's your opinion. You can think however you want to.
Who are we to dictate whether someone's opinion on something is worth ridicule?

So you're saying that it's not ridiculous to say the world is flat? Is it also not ridiculous to say 1 + 1 = 3? Is it also not ridiculous to say that 9/11 was the best thing to happen to the US in the 21st Century?

Why not?
Because it's ridiculous.
And thus, worthy of ridicule.
Etymology ftw!

How very open minded of you. This isn't an opinon I find acceptible at all. That's why I find Nazi beliefs so abhorrant. Some opinions should NOT be tolerated.

I'm not saying that the ideas themselves aren't ridiculous. But ridiculing the idea is unnecessary. It doesn't solve anything. It doesn't bring anything to the debate. It does essentially nothing but make someone else feel bad and the one ridiculing the idea feel better.

Ridiculous: arousing or deserving ridicule.
Either it deserves it or it doesn't. Make up your mind.

If someone's idea is sick and degrading, they should feel bad about it. Some ideas, in thier very nature, should rile feelings of anger in any normal human being. It is beyond me how so many people in my generation have so effectively been taught to ignore their gag reflex and eat the crap that people feed them. I say "NO!", I say "Get that crap away from me!". Maybe I'm crazy.

For centuries people thought that the world is flat and those that thought other way were ridiculed. On some opinions we can indeed say fairly sure that they are ridiculous but on others it's not that clear. Just accept I have an invisible friend. Although it's ridiculous to you, it makes perfect sense to me. I accept you're opinion that 0+0 is 6734 although it makes no sense to me.
You'd make an awesome math test grader.

And which are those?
Nazi or just general? In general:
1) The belief that Jews are not human, and subject to extermination.
2) The belief that raping virgin infants cures aids.
3) The belief that you can honor your family by drowning them.
4) The belief that you are stopping earthquakes by murdering people.
5) The belief that you are God, and people should kill themselves at your command.
6) The belief that ending an unborn human's life is less of a travesty than global warming conspiracy.
7) and on and on and on...
The list of human beliefs that not only cause horror in my mind, but wish that the beliefs were not human at all, is a long list. Trying to diminish my feelings of anguish when reconciling those beliefs with reality is idiotic.
And I find it no less than hipocritical that most people here are ready to reject my belief that these beliefs should cause outrage, on the theory that all beliefs should be accepted.

Well, you've got me there. Perhaps a better word choice would have suited. How does idiotic sound?

I'm not saying that you need to eat the crap people feed you. I'm saying it's a better method to try and sway someone's opinion through constructive means. Otherwise you end up in an endless argument with no winner foreseeable.
