Also looks like we'll be seeing many more demo's running around.
In other words, "DEMO IS THE NEW FOTM!1111"

hehe, yeah the hybrid over destro thing makes me think blizz will probably nerf back from it's current ptr position.
hmm, i'd been assuming that the change to DP was an additional 5% increased spellpower (synergy with the DP buff etc) but it's actually just a straight 5% bump to output (finally got myself on the ptr to look). good for personal DPS though perhaps a bit lazy of blizz ^^
just wanted to clarify for anyone else who had assumed the same as me.

What the 40/31 build being above destro tells me is that decimation is what's causing these drastic shifts in numbers. My guess is that it's gonna get toned down (20/40% casting time reduction down from 30/60?) and we'll see things start to even out more towards where they should be. 40/31 was one of the worst specs before the change to decimation, and with
only
decimate being changed and nothing else it jumped up above both pure affliction and destruction specs.

well seeing as i love demo im hoping they dont tone it down, but if they do ill still be happy because blizz is trying to balance us, as compared to most classes where they have one spec that puts out competitive(sp) dps

Asak although I can understand that a hybrid spec shouldn't be better than a true deep spec, It's only ever so slightly better. They aren't worlds apart, and it's better off for the whole of the class to have multiple specs that are within the same viability of each other (assuming they buff affliction). If hybrid can stick it out with the deep specs then it gives the class much more options and ultimately much more variation and an overall content class. If Blizzard were to tone it down, I'd almost hope they'd reconsider.
yeah, i don't disagree with you i'm just guessing that blizzard's reaction will be that it's not really what they'd intended. 40/31 in particular is an ugly looking spec (subjective) and the surprise i mentioned earlier was more due to conflag>FG than simply hybrids being so high.
olga, i'll do you a deal at 25/50 ^_^

Right now meta/ruin is at least 300 dps higher than 3/13/55 right now based on current simcraft iterations. that's not slightly higher, that's imbalanced. That plus the raid utility, we are literally going to be forced into going demo if they keep things the way they are.

I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers, but I'm going off the EJ simcraft results found
here
. Since I last checked the numbers changed, but its still the same large differences that I'm sure Blizzard wants to avoid when determining spec viability. If you look at the chart right at the front, you'll see that any spec that includes decimate is topping any spec without decimate. I don't even think that its debatable at this point whether or not decimate has to be toned down. (for those too lazy to click the link: 0/56/15 is top with 10440 dps, about 300 ahead of second place, and 3/13/55 is 10005 dps, about 40 ahead of 0/13/58 and 300 dps ahead of affliction w/ DG (although that isn't including hasted corruption which will more than likely put it in line with the other specs).
Spec 1 is ~300 above spec 2, spec 2 is 70 above spec 3, spec 3 is 30 above spec 4, spec 4 is 50 above spec 5, etc. etc. These numbers are reasonable; its the specs that do horribly outside of execute range and then when they hit <35% on a boss spike up to upwards of 17-18k dps that are broken. I'm not saying hybrid specs aren't allowed to perform well, but decimation shouldn't be the only thing that makes them viable. Two mid-tier talent points should not be accounting for upwards of 1-2 thousand dps, period.

When the boss is below 35% specs with decimation are seeing their dps spike to upwards of 17k. That's what's causing their overall average dps to jump so high; outside of that last 35% they're doing substantially less dps, but once they hit that point its fkin vroom vroom.
A chart showing 0/56/15 dps over the course of a fight can be found

Meta is active for a large part of that. Additionally, it isn't actually SF "weaving" anymore. The buff you get lasts for 8 seconds, procs off of soulfire (so every time you cast soulfire it refreshes itself) and reduces the cast time of soulfire by 30/60% for 8 seconds and remove soul shard cost. Once you get to sub 35% it is literally just spamming soulfire nonstop.

That would actually probably bring it more in line with other specs than a 20/40 nerf.

* Decimation now reduces the cast time of your Soul Fire spell by 20/40% (Down from 30/60%)
* Molten Core now gives Your Shadow spells and damage over time effects have a 12% chance to increase the damage done by your Incinerate by 15% and Soul Fire by 4/7/10% for 12 sec.
* Conflagrate now deals damage equal to 60% of your Immolate or Shadowflame and causes 20% additional damage over 6 sec.
gah, 20/40
overall, oddly, looks good for 41/30 and bad for deep demo.
also, nerf to conflag and a further lowering of it's burst.
