The change to UBA is a nerf it used to be All incoming damage it is now solely a physical damage reduction. This is a huge nerf to our ability to tank. I never said we were pure avoidance, just that we are now what you would consider an avoidance tank. We don't have as much health or mitigation as our counter parts so going DW is the way to offset that mitigation loss.

UBA went from armor increase to damage reduction back to armor increase.
Buffed then nerfed.
Went from a great trash tanking tool and a not so great but usable boss tanking tool to a trashy trash tanking tool and a not so great boss tanking tool. I dunno about you, but I've already got a good amount of armor and am not too crazy about cooldowns that add to it.
I kind of thought of UBA as our block mechanic.
Edit: Misread one of the comments on the spell trying to look up its history. It was physical damage. But still better effect on trash than current version.

I can't log in right now to verify, but I figure that I have roughly 24,600 armor in frost presence right now. 25% of that is 6,150 armor. Say I underestimated and am at 26,000. I only get 6,500 armor from it. My
The Black Heart
gives me more armor, although not on demand.
I am not stricken with its power.

I haven't tanked Vezax, but wowwiki says he tops around 20k damage on plate. If I'm reading that right, and I'm assuming 25,000 armor which is 60% damage mitigation, then he's doing an attack that starts out at 50,000 before mitigation.
UBA puts that mitigation up to 65%. That extra 5% mitigation is 2,500.
Old UBA would be reducing attacks by a flat rate of 1250.
So in the Vezax case, yes, its 2x as good as the old one.
It generally takes a boss hitting for only 25,000 damage before mitigation (15,000 hits after with 60% mitigation) where the new UBA even begins to outdo old one.
Start collecting trash or picking up lesser hitting bosses and now old UBA is beginning to far outshine the new one.
On trash lets assuming their hitting you for 5,000 before mitigation, which is 3,000 after 60% armor mitigation. Old UBA drops that damage by another 1,250 making it 1,750 per attack where as new UBA only removes an extra 250hp per attack making it 2,750. That can add up on trash.
Like I said, I started using UBA as a block mechanic on trash. Frost Presence is supposed to be our shield. Extra armor does not replace a block mechanic of even further reducing damage.
So yes, while I was incorrect on characterizing new one is a not so great boss tanking tool, I personally still prefer the old mechanic.

since I don't wanna make a new thread for this small question, and I am too lazy to read 6 pages of comments I'll just ask plainly this.
scourge strike has gone trough a great deal of changes, and I don't know if these are good or not.
this is how it was before: An unholy strike that deals 40% of weapon damage
as Shadow damage
plus 317.5, total damage increased 10% per each of your diseases on the target.
so if you used scourge strike, and (for example) it did 4000 damage (since it's shadow it wont be mitigated by the target's armor) with all 3 diseases this would recieve a 30% bonus boost on the total damage, so 4k+30% of 4k=5600 unmitigated damage.
the new scourge strike: The base ability now deals 50% weapon damage plus an additional amount
as physical damage.
However, for each disease the death knight has on the target, the target will take additional
shadow damage
equal to 25% of the physical damage done.
so, if used, scourge strike could do (for example) 4k damage, and then per diseace on the target 25% of that 4k gets done as shadow damage, 4k+25% of 4000x4=7000.
however since the initial damage (4000) is now physical, it can be mitigated by the target's armor, and this diminishes the extra damage boost.
not to mention that all Shadow enhance talents won't affect the initial damage of scourge strike (wich was one of the reasons it was better than oblitearate) only the extra damage.
so while in theory this change is good, it can be terrible.
of course I know jack about theorycrafting I'm just pulling facts out of nowhere, and this is why I turn to the more experienced players to answer my doubts.
is scourge strike "Better" or "worst" with this new change?

@rankorr - the idea is to cause all dk's to gear approximately the same. Instead of gearing differently for each spec. Unholy will now have to factor Armor penn into it's calculations.
