Even the Darkspear of the Warcraft 3 were semi-stereotypical at first.

Even the Darkspear of the Warcraft 3 were semi-stereotypical at first. Not really. Trolls aren't generally portrayed as wise in any fiction I've ever heard of, besides Warcraft.

I've run across trolls that are scary intelligent, super dumb and so on; off the top of my head Mercedes Lackey Troll fey which can depend on the troll themselves, the Trolls of Shadowrun though as they are metamorphed humans it's expected, quite a few ancient myths do have the trolls as being sneaky conniving and freakishly intelligent.
There is the stereotype yeah, but again, all depends on the source; after all, look at the LotR trolls(roll eyes).

Actually, thinking back on a what few users have said, where the Orcs of Warcraft were the first time they've seen them portrayed as non-rawr kill'em all, obviously have never encountered the world of
Shadowrun
heh. As said about the trolls in that universe, humans who were metamorphosed when Magick returned to the world, the orks are also humans changed into the new form. But just like the Trolls, there are a large number of incredibly intelligent and elegantly speaking beings....who just happen to be built far thicker then humans and are usually 6 and a half to 7 feet tall, with the trolls being anywhere from 7-9 feet heh.

Okay, the first
popular
depiction as such. I'd never even heard about Shadowrun before you told me about it.

Lol; hey Shadowrun was really popular back in the day....and then when they tried to bring it back, they @#$%ed up and went with Xbox and Microsoft, creating a horrible craptastic game that even the creators of Shadowrun called 'a game loosely based on the world of Shadowrun' lol.
That being said, I have hopes for the game they are trying to put out, which would have ties to the SNES and Genesis video games from the 90's ^_^ I still love playing my copy of the Genesis one, as that is one of the better action RPG's that were out back then.
But yes, heh, All Trolls are Different as are Orcs(Orks) lol.
Also, lol as well:
From the last will and testament of the great dragon Dunkelzahn regarding someone he dealt with:
For a period of ten days beginning on 14 February 2057, Lars J. Matthews will cease to possess any legal status. He will be stripped of all evidence of legal existence, including SIN, credsticks, DocWagon contract, bank accounts and so on. To the individual or group who ends Lars J. Matthews' physical existence during those ten days, I leave all of Matthews' assets and 1 million nuyen for a job well done. If Mr. Matthews survives and can prove his identity, his legal status and all possessions will be restored to him. Haven't you heard? Never deal with a dragon, Lars.

So, I was leafing through my old Warcraft 3 manual........... it says muradin is well over 230 years old.
So dwarves have twice (thrice? Muradin doesn't exactly looks old) the lifespan of your average human? I dind't knew that.
Interesting.
Also, the maps on the war3 manual have undergone some massive changes, they barely resemble current-day azeroth. I mean Caer Darrow is waaaaay to the EAST of Stratholm, that's just not right.

Yup; and Gnomes have roughly the same life span too. Humans, Worgens, Trolls, Orcs and Taurens are the short lifes of the Warcraft universe for the playable races.

Lol, I meant the short life's compared to the Elves, the Draenei, and the short races; well except for Goblins, but considering what happens to most of them early on in their lives....heh.
Edit: And the Forsaken are technically immortal, since as long as they have someone to fix them/keep them sane, they keep going.

And The horde landed in kalimdors south edge with sea at their south so Tanaris?
but they encounterd quillboars, centaurs amd tauren, not the races that we see there ingame...

Humans, Worgens, Trolls, Orcs and Taurens are the short lifes of the Warcraft universe for the playable races. The neat things about Orcs is while they do grow old and die at about the same rate as humans, they very rarely grow frail like humans do. Hence Grom Hellscream kicking massive amounts of ass in War3 in his 50s-60s, and Saurfang still being the baddest ass orc alive when he's likely even older.

Agreed with Adamsm, Shadowrun was actually a pretty big success for the tabletop gaming industry c.1980-2000. Also, it had a fair-size audience over in Europe. Fanpro was a German tabletop company that got involved with FASA by handling the adaptation of Shadowrun and producing German-specific modules for it. When FASA's owners decided to close their doors (less a case of tough times and more a case of anticipating tough times and wanting to go out "gracefully"), they were the first company to take up their work (and the better part of their US staff) and continue Shadowrun and Classic Battletech.
Which leads to my next point; FASA had bought back the electronic game licenses for their properties back from Activision after fights over how Mechwarrior 2 and its expansions were handled, iirc, and created an in-house development studio to make Mechwarrior 3 and other titles (Mechcommander 1 I believe, and the original PC Crimson Skies game, which was apparently much more "sim-y" than the Xbox one). Then, around the same time they got into a nasty legal dispute with Playmates, Microsoft offered them a sweet deal for FASA studios (the electronic game developer) and all the video/computer game rights to their IP's. FASA signed on, and we got Mechwarrior 4, Mechassault 1&2, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Shadowrun (Xbox). Basically, FASA had no input in any of it once they signed the deal, though Jordan Weisman (FASA's Gary Gygax) did have a string of cushy high-level development positions with Microsoft's gaming division during this time period.
Sometime after the flop of Shadowrun MS shut the whole studio down (read
this Trenches newspost
for an interesting take on how that played out), MS agreed to sell back the licensing rights to either Weisman, or one of his many start-ups, which fortunately brought us to the current situation, with Mechwarrior Online, and various other new projects forthcoming. Sorry for all that, but I just wanted to set things straight.
TLDR
; MS badly mismanaged the FASA properties, but they owned any rights to making videogames free and clear, so FASA only made one mistake which was the original sale.
So, Adams, they're making another Shadowrun RPG? Who's working on it, are they going for something like Fallout 3 or Mass effect? Because if so, hot damn. Never played the Genesis one, but Shadowrun (SNES) was very cool.

The new game is going back to the roots of 2D so we'll have to wait and see.
This is the project.
