well, back when Battle for UC was still around (T_T I SO MISS THAT QUEST) Orgrimmar was temporarily under martial law, and all stores, trainers, bank, auction houses, and the like were suspended. And would not be restored until you completely retook Undercity.
Only because you were stuck in a phased version of the city; like you said, once the quest was over, it went back to normal. But with so many quests and achievements being tied into specific cities now a days(getting the rep tabards, the cooking/fishing dailies, for the Alliance/Horde, the Worgen/Goblin ending quests and so on) they can't really just lock down a city like that.
not quite man.
There are no achievements, or cooking/fishing dailies to be gained in silvermoon. nor in exodar.
and they could lock these cities down via phasing for HIGH LVL PLAYERS ONLY. Only for those who complete the required set of quest-chains at lvl 90. Much like how orgrimmar was only locked down for people doing the wrathgate quest but nobody else.

The Culling of Stratholme had a connection with Thrall? I know for sure the other ones did.
If Arthas hadn't of gone evil, Jaina and her forces would never have gone to Kalimdor, which means Thrall and the orcs would have lost because Grom would never have been cleansed; Thrall may have been killed by Mannoroth at that point.
Ah.
And yet again Thrall is the most important character...
For this expansion. Just like hobo jesus was in Wrath.
hobo jesus he may have been but damn if
he
doesn't
look
AWESOME
.
I wouldn't had been half as upset about how they dealt with Thrall's story on cataclysm if at least they had deemed to give him clothings that don't make him look like a hobo (Such as his iconic Black Plate, which I still hope he will wear again one day) and actually made him FIGHT when he shows up.
He spent 80% of his appearances just yapping.

That's actually a really good picture of Tirion.
lol, which one? number 1 2 3 or 4?
Thrall showed up on Cata and talked or *shudders* Aggra would speak. /gag
yeah =( the worst part is that they replaced Alextrazsa's EPIC voice-actress (Who did a FANTASTIC JOB on the twilight highlands quest) with the same woman who voices aggra.
natturally, her acting on dragon-soul was horrible. Totally ruined what was already a great character.
The first voice-actress for alextrazsa (used only twice on WOTLK, at the end of Eye of Eternity, and at a small segment in Ulduar) was so-so. Not bad, but not good either.
The second actress (Used to FANTASTIC EFFECTS in Twilight Highlands in what is my favorite quest on all of cataclysm) NAILED IT. She just has this voice that was at the same time, old, but wise, weathered, but enduring. A perfect mix of someone who despite being old still has an iron will, and a drive to fulfill her duty.
Third actress (same one as Aggra) is as usual, an emotionless robot, that delivers lines wihtout conviction, and sounds far too younger for someone who should sound quite older. Notice how Nozdormu, and Malygos both had actors who didn't sound so young.
she also voices most of the female trolls now =( I dunno what major CEO she is humping at blizz, but they are suspiciously giving just about every female role to her and her alone.
I also have to add that I freaking HATED the horrid love story between Thrall and Aggra. That cheapened so much, any storyline pertaining to Thrall. During the quest line in the beginning of the Firelands patch, to put Thrall back together. Her monologue/dialogue was vomit inducing and actually made me wish they'd have left Thrall out of all this mess.
as much as I'm probably one of the biggest Thrall-fans on the world (Perhaps second only to Taurenmoo) I am afraid I have to agree. That quest was horrible.
Which was kinda a shame too, because it has some DAMN GOOD music, some of the finest tracks in the game are from that quest, including the part where Thrall declares to Aggra, and the segment where all his pieces are reunited, as well as the part in uldum. All of those parts have a fantastic music that sadly isn't reused in more fitting (and less crappy) moments.
At least, one of the best tracks is reused at the end of the Dragon's wrath quest chain for the legendary. But, it being a legendary and all that, very few get to experience it.

Also, did anyone else notice than in Hour of Twilight, thrall runs like a male dreanei? Not like a male orc, or his own animation, but he really looks like a male, green, robed and bag carrying dreanei, with a giant ruby necklace (whats with the necklace? Its huge) to me.
That's meant to be the Demon/Dragon Soul around his neck. As for why he runs like that...cause he's upright instead of stooped like the rest of the non-important NPC orcs(Saurfang, Garrosh, Etrigg and others stand up straight unless they are meant to be 'evilish' in which case they have the hunch).

nopr, all orc models have the hunchback including the awesome saurfang.
The reason Thrall runs like a draenei is because his new model uses the Draenei base skeleton, much like for example, Alysrazor's new model uses the base skeleton of the proto-dragons.
if you pay close attention, the Base skeleton of the female worgen model also seems to be based off the base skeleton of draenei females, and its fairly obvious that the base skeleton for "Broken" draenei is based off the Tauren base skeletons.
Blizzard does this a lot to save time and resources, often using the base skeletons of a model multiple times, and just re-texturing it.
The old goblin models (male and female) used the dwarf base skeleton.
And as for the huge necklace, adamsm he's had it even from the start of cataclysm, long before he had the dragon soul. No idea why though.
Still think the black plate was MILES better than the rags he's wearing.

The bead necklace are spirit beads of some kind, possibly a nod back to the appearence of the WC3 Blademasters. Why, I don't know.

Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans is an RTS(same as WC2), but in that game, both of the story lines are identical except for the names being changed. WC2 is a little better, with some difference between the two story lines, but still not game breaking heh; the advantage that WC2 had was that it had the expansion with it for Beyond the Dark Portal.

Yes, the quests have lore tied into them.
As for where, Wowpedia is a good place to start.
