I think all the rationale in these discussions come from the supposition that the Breakers are superior to the Hammers, which in turn comes from insufficient data.
Besides, this is warcraft.
Well the opposite does happen too; some think the Hammers are superior to the Breakers heh.

High Archbishop Anduin Wrynn? I could see it. Even if he has gone on to train with Velen (Or did that never happen... I forget).
Its hardly a coincidence that Anduin's becoming a priest and Benedictus' big reveal are so close to each other. I can definitely see Anduin being a candidate for the successor of Benedictus' successor (because of his age).
Except Anduin hasn't been sworn in to the Church, or taken any vows yet; he's just been training with Priests(seen in the Shattering) and semi-personal training with Velen and the draenei as a whole as of Wolfheart; Varian's leader story shows him coming home for the Remembrance Day style holiday, but it also sounds like he'd be going back to the Exodar after that point......where the Alliance Twilight Highlands quests fall into that well....

Again, Anduin is a heir apparent. His duties to the Crown outweigh those to the Cloth.

Are they even said to be mutually exclusive?Varian thought so, at least, in regards to Anduin going away with the Draenei in Wolfheart. He's gotten a bit better as seen in his leader story, but it does seem obvious that being the next King of Stormwind is in Anduin's future even if he studies the Light. Anduin himself has said he's not meant to be a warrior, but also doesn't seem set against being the next king.

Well we don't know the oaths clergy in Azeroth brings, but judging by Stormwind's real life counterpart - a conglomerate of Western European countries - I believe so. I don't see the kingdom of Azeroth as a theocracy.

Second link in my sig Delt, has a review of both Wolfheart and part two of Shadow Wing: Nexus Point(you know, what happened to Malygos to wake him up).
I could almost see a reunification of Church and State here...Maybe, but we'll have to wait and see in that regards; but Anduin's age could still stand against him, since even Varian didn't officially become King of Stormwind till he was 18.

Another possibly stupid question, was the Church and the State ever unified? Besides, was it ever said that Stormwind actually doesn't adopt the Holy Light as the state religion? Not precisely, but then again the Church of the Light is the 'official' religion of three different races don't forget: Humans, Dwarves and High Elves. I don't think any particular city counts it as their own, beyond the fact that all of those races follow it if you have a religious bent. Varian himself doesn't seem to understand the Light, and Jaina has some less then nice thoughts about the Church....and the Dwarves seem to more or less just out right ignore it beyond how it can help.
The only two races that seem to have a merger of their Church and State are the Draenei(well duh) and the Forsaken(also a duh); Velen of course for the Draenei and Sylvanas is accepting of the Cult of the Forgotten Shadow for what it does for her people...and well her, if her body get's injured(has to go somewhere to get fixed up).

Except the Draenei aren't part of the Church of the Holy Light, so why would the Humans, Dwarves and High Elves follow the alien immigrant?

Especially since the alliance native races don't seem to accept the idea of demons, aliens and worgen all that easily.Well........that I'm not sure about: The Worgen did get reinvited to the Alliance fairly 'easily'(okay it took 2 votes but still heh), but even then, the Gilneans are still humans and still possible followers of the Church. That said, I still can't see Velen being chosen as the Archbishop because of his strangeness factor as well as the fact that the Light of the Draenei seems more forgiving then the Light of the Church heh.
Edit: Entirely possible though, we may see the next Archbishop come from the Argent Crusade or Dawn.
