Lol, from today's queue:
Phoenix asked:
WoW Insider streamed two of the new dungeons on the PTR, End Time and Hour of Twilight. Which is your favorite so far?
End Time is an enjoyable jaunt and I will happily run it over and over again. Hour of Twilight is a huge headache and I did not think it was possible to make Thrall a more irritating companion than he was in Escape from Durnholde, but Blizzard pulled it off. I hate him. I really, truly hate him.
Running down a plain, snowy pathway in Hour of Twilight doesn't feel very good, either. Especially after the wholly different, post-apocalyptic view of the exact same zone that we get in End Time. It's like .. End Time is a delicious chocolate cake, right? Hour of Twilight is that same cake, except someone scraped all of the frosting off. And your green-skinned friend runs up and
throws it on the ground
before you can eat any of it.
This is the PTR, though. They can still make Thrall not-a-pain-in-the-ass. We don't know how close they are to finished with these instances at all, so don't take my opinion as any sort of solid condemnation.
End Time is where it's at.
Yeah, I'll admit that during any quest that involves Thrall coming with you, I want to go back in time and NOT defend him during a FTA raid.
ohh really? so now Thrall is the new Voss?
What about Battle for Undercity? he was quite a badass there as was he during the Hero of the Mag'har quest, and if he hasn't been one in cata, is because the writers have pegged him with touchy-feeling-tender-tender-flowery-pickup-duty for 2 books and what has happened in the expansion.

the same can be said for EVERY SINGLE NPC IN A DUNGEON man.
this isn't just thrall.
The only exeption is arthas, and that's cuz A: he wasn't with us for half the dungeon, and B: WOTLK dungeons were very easy.

Arthas was the worst. I can't even describe how badly he slowed runs down and how many times I watched Mal'Ganis face-roll him before I could even taunt.

...This never happened to me.
This. Are you sure we've been playing the same game? My Arthas would usually punch an abomination INNA FACE (his animation is that screwed).

my point is, that people whining about Thrall being a liability in a dungeon isn't something exclusive to him, every NPC in a dungeon is a burden, the same happened with that tauren dude in the wailing caverns, or the red dragon dude in the quillboar hideout, and a rather long list of ect.
This very same reason is why in raids, NPCs tend to litteraly pull their sh1t together and either not be a liability, or actually be extremely useful and strong. Like Jaina and Thrall on Hyjal, who could do quite a lot of damage on their own, and didn't needed to be babysitted the whole encounter. (Of course you DID had to keep 1 eye on them, and if overwhelmed lend a hand, but most of hte time they took care of themselves on their own)
and Arthas never was a burden to me, but that's mostly because I'm a godly tank xD, I was chain-pulling the gauntlet from day 1, and never once had him die on me.

I honestly had my finger on my taunt and the second combat started, Mal'Ganis smacked Arthas in the face and lopped over half his health off.

Heh, yeah, it just seems weird that some of the Escort characters in the Instances know what they are doing, but then they have Thrall pulling the same things he did in Durnholde; could at least fix some of that by now.

again, this isn't exclusive to thrall, almost every NPC you must escort in a 5man behaves like a complete moron.
Its a necesary evil, as if they are too strong, they can solo the place (Much like how Thrall could solo the battle for Undercity) thus they need the players to stay alive. If the players hang back and let them be, they will die all the time. Its a Gameplay vs Story segregation that one simply must ignore for the sake of the story. While taking solace that outside of the instances, these NPCs tend to be much more reliable.

Eh to be fair, the question was about which of the new instances the Queue writer liked more: He disliked Hour of Twilight because of the Thrall mechanic(he'd probably feel the same no matter who the escort NPC was), and prefers End of Time as that mechanic isn't there.

well, while I do agree that the endtime dungeon is awesome (being the first instance to feature travel to the future instead of the past) I'm very disappointed at one thing about it:
We don't get to explore all of the desolated dragonblight =(
I was hoping we were able to even fly, or at least ride and explore the entire area or most of it just as we were able to explore 80% of hillsbrad in the durnhold instance.
What we get instead is that the entire dungeon takes place in the shrines, we dont even get to enter the ruins of the temple to take a closer look at D-wing's body or anything like that. On the other hand, the hour of twilight instance does feature a more broader exploration of dragonblight and a more "open-ended" feel like the durnhold instance did, rather than the simplistic 5 rooms that made up the endtime dungeon.
It would had been nice though if Thrall was given SOME skills to make the job of guarding him a bit more cool, I mean, a shaman who isn't chain-lightning left and right isn't a complete shaman. And him being able to help us bring down the trash packs with some medium-sized CL woudn't be so OP as to make thrall capable of doing all the heavy lifting from us.
The one thing I hate about escorting an NPC is when said NPC has no skills and just uses a weak auto-attack. Alternatively, instead of having to escort an NPC they could had added the "party-NPC" mechanic featured in so many cataclysm zones (Like how for example Godfrey and his 2 bro's accompany you on silverpine, now THOSE are some escort NPCs that nobody would mind having to tag along)

Don't most of the escort NPCs use one of, like, two AIs?
Walk slow as piss, stop and fight everything. Or run madly into death.

Usually both. :/ Walk slow as piss when you would otherwise be able to outrun enemies, or run when it doesn't matter any more.
