I was under the impression not everyone has every class due to culture and not race. Except the undead before the confirmation their priests' light spells weren't just gameplay.
At the moment yeah, but since all the new information is coming down out of the North, plus the Gilneans having their Harvest Witches before the outbreak of the Curse, means it could be brought in at some future point....and my original argument about Humans being shamans is the same as it was for Goblins, but since Gobs are now part of the pact of the Elements, guess it wouldn't be that much of a stretch for Humans to join at some point.

That's probably how they'll play it if/when Human Shamans come out.

Stormwind humans have some respect towards nature, they even live in a huge forest. That they cut down to create land for new cities, firewood supplies and other things. Living in a forest does not mean you respect nature: Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine Forest are both fairly wooded, but that doesn't mean we need Undead Shamans.
At the moment, none of the Human kingdoms really have all that much respect for nature, as seen by how they expand and all.

So the question is: does it really matter that there are a few lingering animists amongst humans? Or is the most important thing here their presence as a organization or part of one? If so, then there isn't much to discuss here. If Blizzard wants human shamans or even blood elf druids or whatever, they don't really need to justify it with some sort of mass conversion to shamanism.
They do, however, have to justify why there is an influx of them so massive that they become a character class with access to training facilities near their starting zone as well.
Yup.

dammit, :S my hard-drive fried a couple of days ago, can someone do me a favor and tell me when does the brewfest this year starts?
Also, I feel compelled to remind everyone that shaman are perhaps the most special kind of spellcaster there is in azeroth.
Why? because unlike ALL the other classes in the game, NOBODY can decide to "become" a shaman, you must be CHOSEN by the elements first, and the kind of power you wield as a shaman depends on how highly regarded are you by the elements, not by how long have you walked the shamanistic path (Hence why Thrall's power is higher than many other shaman who've been in the path for decades).
The time you have been a shaman only determines how well you can USE your powers, but the AMOUNT of power depends directly on how blessed you are by the elements, and no amount of training can change that.
Also, bear in mind that no matter how much of a tree hugger you may or may not be, if the elements dont choose you, you dont get to be a shaman. Period.
And the elements are unbiased regarding race in their choice, heck they have chosen goblins, a race that overall doesn't have that much respect for nature, because while in a global level they aren't as treehuggers as the taurens or the night elves, on an individual level, there are some goblins who do respect nature (and yes, they do exist, I saw 3 of them in vashjir)
So yes, shamans of EVERY race are posible, but not because said race has a specific interest in the matter, its the elements who call the shots.

Tuesday.
Also, isn't it the same for druids, and to a lesser extent, priests and paladins?

nope.
Priests are a religious order, and anyone with inclination to join them can do so at their leisure.
Paladins only require to be blessed by the light and this can be done by joining a religious order (Blood-knights (post sunwell) Sunwalkers, Hand of Argus, Silver Hand) and making your vows.
Unsure about druids though, I think they too can't completely gain their powers unless blessed by the ancients.
Also: dammit T_T I hope I can get my PC fixed before brewfest starts, I need some money, and having now 6 toons at 85, I can have 6 tries per day to get the new tankard for selling it. Plus the free trinkets cant hurt.
Edit: More on the paladins:
is not like its easy for anyone to become one, its simply a matter of gaining (or in the case of the pre-sunwell blood knights, stealing) the blessing of the light. Having said that, attaining the blessings of the light is quite easy. All it takes is for you to believe (and I mean TRULY) believe that your cause is righteous (even if its not, this is why even the scarlet onslaught had paladins). As long as you believe that you fight for a righteous reason, you have the light's blessing and thus, can become a paladin.
This can happen regardless of race.

But the thing is, you have to be blessed by somebody who's already been blessed, and you have to accept it. Couldn't you assume, then, that the person blessing a new paladin is an analogue to the elements, as the Light is a semidivine being/concept that gives it's power to humans on a basis of how faithful they are to its tenets?

read my edit above :P
The light actually doesn't discriminate much in who gets their blessing. Only requires blind faith, that your cause is righteous, and that your intentions are pure.
As long as you have those, even if nobody else blesses you, you still become a paladin.
Also, requireing a blessing from someone who already was blessed is not quite an analogue to the elements. Because mortal creatures are biased, while the elements are not.
A human paladin who's a veteran, and has been in the order for decades, can recieve a trainee, who's completed his or her training, and "seemingly" is a pure soul, and thus give them his blessing, without knowing that deep inside that person is actually rotten to the core (Such was the case with Tirion Blessing Barthilas, a man who was a complete f*bleep*ing monster)
The elements do not make such mistakes, they dont let trivialities such as race, or political affiliation dictate who gets or doesn't get their blessings. So, its much harder to gain a blessing from never-dieing omnisapient omnipresent spirits of the world, than simple mortals who can be tricked and decieved.
