Found this via reading some various posts (not sure it's up yet)
Apparently Drek'thar's condition has
'deteriorated'
Probably the Alliance beat him up one too many times on their favourite battleground *grumbles*
Also, I noticed that he's apparently none to happy that the Horde is working with the Forsaken. Jeesh, can't we get a break anywhere? Doesn't anyone actually like us anymore? Suuuure, one of our guys snaps and wipes out two armies, and now nearly every faction has unfriended us on Facebook.
And to make matters worse, the Horde has
severed
ties with the Frostwolves.
Sigh, it's not easy being part of the Horde nowadays, hope the Alliance gets some damn drama, outside of the Dwarf power struggle.
Drek is also in his late 70's... he's old. As for the Fosaken.... no shaman of any type like them, seeing them as abominations and against Life itself. As for the Wolves... why should they help? They've been under attack, and had no real help heh, might as well say hell with it and strike out on their own.

However, is it Drek'thar's place to reject the Warchief - after all, isn't Thrall the clan leader of the Frostwolves?

Thrall is the son of Durotan, so I would think he is the "rightful" the leader of the clan. Although I think he decide to give leadership to Drek'thar as he left to Kalimdor, but I could be wrong.
Edit: Here is the complete dialog of Drek'Thar about the Forsaken.

They probably took that Oath of the Horde, so they are kinda obligated to. Unless something really bad convinces them of not;
The comment from Drek in the wheelchair makes it seem like your asking him to do something that goes against both the Horde and the Orcs.... and has something to do with the Forsaken themselves.

Drek'thar said he wouldn't help the Forsaken because countless lives have been lost to the Forsaken's war machine, and aiding them in killing even more would be even more terrible than what he did when he was a Warlock of the Old Horde.

going by those lines, neither the leage of arathor, nor the stormpikes nor the silverwing sentinels have ever had any sort of help in their respective struggles, Stromgarde is still a smoking ruin, ashenvale is burning and being deforested, with the silverwings losign their main base and major chunks of terrain, and the stormpike werent able to get suport for their unjustified invation to a land that doesn't belong to them.
why should they stay in the alliance?
As for the Fosaken.... no shaman of any type like them, seeing them as abominations and against Life itself
it was the earthen ring (a shaman organization) wich convinced thrall to let the forsaken join the horde in the first place. Plus, the shamans don't hate forsakens (I mean the specie, not the undercity faction), they hate undeads, those are abominations, forsakens do have a will of their own. let's not forget that before WG was introduced, there was an abomination NPC questgiver in the frostwolf village in alterac Valley.
simple analogy, Paladins hate undead, but the argent dawn, a major paladin organization has forsakens in their ranks. because forsakens themselves aren't true undead, having a will and actual awareness. Of course, forsakens loyal to the undercity are rather infamous, and I can't blame anyone for not trusting them or hating them, or both.
also, I highly doubt that the frostwolves have left the horde (that would make the alterac BG completely pointless) it looks more like they chose not to help whatever machiavelic plan the forsakens have in their twisted minds. Is the right of every member of the horde to offer and refuse aid when the request isn't to their liking.
Only exeption would be if the warchief orders it, the warchief's word is law, and to disobey him is to become a traitor (wich is why I don't get WHY THE HELL IS SYLVANNAS NOT BEHEADED, maybe garrosh doesn't have the guts to pull the plug himself)
in other words, they are still loyal to the horde, but don't suport the forsakens and will refuse aid to those traitors.

You know, the Earthen Ring must really be regretting getting the Forsaken into the Horde by now....

Aye... of course, we've already dealt with a crazed ambitious gnome for the last few years, do we need another one already?

if by dealt you mean killing his low-lvl clockwork copy that somehow we mistook for the real deal, and then forgot about him for 5 years, then yhea we've "dealt" with a crazed gnome.
