1. The events of Ebon Hold happen 6 months before Wrath begins.
2. Not really; people have to choose to follow the Light heh.
3. Teleports to Shatt sure, but beyond that, not really.

bummer on the second part, but thanks for the info adams.
De nada.

I think the second part is possible. Most of the first Paladins were priests, but some were originally warriors.

Yeah, but they turned to the Light; he's saying it kind of snuck up on his warrior/paladin, without the person realizing it, maybe a reverse parallel to Arthas(though I still think he knew).

alright, i have a few questions.
firstly, about how many years was it from the end of the third war to the assault on the scarlet enclave by the scourge?
next, is it feasible for a warrior to begin with little faith in the light, but over time as his faith grows, sort of morph into a paladin through minor events that are beyond his control? (think the progression of darth bane from a normal guy into a sith lord, if you've read the books)
and lastly, lore wise, would there be any other way to get to outland without traveling through the dark portal?
ok let's see.
when vainilla wow was launched, the starting vid said that "4 years had passed since the mortal races allied togheter and stood united against the might of the burning legion"
so, from the end of third war to start of vainilla = 4 years.
from vainilla to Burning crusade = 1 year.
from Burning crusade to Wrath of the lich king = 1 year.
From wrath of the lich king backwards to the assault on the scarlet enclave = 6 months. (aka 0.5 year)
do the math (actualluy allow me to doit xD) 4+1+1-0.5=5.5 years, or 5 years and 6 months from the end of the third war to the assault on the scarlet enclave by the ebon knights.
right, second question......
most paladins were either of another profession or simple normal people before becoming paladins, so it's posible lorewise that a warrior gives up the rage and violent tendencies of the warrior and focus on the path of the paladin as his faith grows......
however......
sort of morph into a paladin through minor events that are beyond his control?
this is the part that is not posible, paladins aren't chosen, they choose themselves, whoever wishes to walk along the path of the paladin MUST choose to do so, events that are behond our control or desition to accept or refuse cannot and will not make someone a paladin.
even the blood-elves who became the first of the blood knights did so by their own choise, the magisters cound't infuse someone with the stolen light of mu'ru by force, the vessel needed to desire and accept that power.
so, the first half of your question is true, a warrior with a small amount of faith in the light CAN become a paladin as his faith grows, but it must be HIS desition, not something forced by others, he must truly honestly wish and desire to walk that path, any sort of cohertion by a third party is enough to make the individual be rejected by the light.
first half true, second half..... no.
third question.......
the most viable way to travel to outland is the dark portal, and while mages have devised their own mini-portals to travel to shatt, I doubt those portals exist lore-wise, me thinks those are just gameplay features, much like the heartstones.
think about it, if safer routes to outland existed, why did maraan and med'an used flying mounts to go to the blasted lands into shatt? I mean jaina is the most powerfull archmage in the world, she could had easily ported them there herself and save them the long journey since they even had to travel to a diferent continent, they were in theramoore, and had to fly all the way to the southern end of the eastern kingdoms.
I think that lore-wise the only REAL method of crossing to outland is via the dark portal.

Well the idea is that he is a sort of blind zealot of the Scarlet Crusade. Has a lot of faith in the light, but isn't a paladin. Then he witnesses the slaughter of practically the entire crusade at the hands of the Scourge, and he loses all faith in the Light.
Then over time his faith in the Light begins to return, but he finds (through a bit of trial and error) that unlike before, he is able to wield the light as a tool in combat. (a sort of de-facto retribution paladin)
That was the idea anyways, probably should have explained it better >.>
See that can work; but he has to be actively working for the Light; even Turaylon did something like that, he had weak skills at Light control during the first part of the 2nd War, but once he saw Lothar fall, and realized that, to his eyes, 'the Orcs didn't exist in the Light', his doubts and fears vanished and he called on the full strength of his power to just lay into Doomhammer and kick his head down into his arse heh.

thecnically you don't have to be "good" to be a paladin, see abbendis how despite her cruelness and her murderous ways she still wields the light.
one must have faith, in this newer example you provided, that can indeed work, however the light can't "spontaneously and suddenly" flow in him for no reason at all.
for him to be a paladin he must seek the light, he must find a reason to renew his faith, the light never just picks a random target and infuses him or her with power.
so long as this zealot of the scarlets increases his faith in the light and actively work towards earning it's blessing, then yhea, it's posible.
Addams, what do you think of my "Dark portal" theory? I still believe mage-portals to be simple game-play mechanics, just like the druid's teleport to moonglade, or the shaman's astral recall.
see medan and maraad for the example of why I believe that.

It's entirely possible Jaina has never been to Shattrah, so she couldn't open a portal for Med'an and Maarad to travel to Outland(in all honesty, it was meant to let Maarad speak to his grandnephew about his past), but don't forget, both Med'an and Meryl teleport later heh.

Well, we see her as cruel and murderous... she sees herself as doing the right thing after all heh.
exactly, thanks for putting it on those words.
you don't have to "be" good, just have to "believe" you are good, and I'm not talking of self-deception, I'm talking about truly honestly feverly believe you are doing the right desition, even if that desition is impregnated by evil.
this is why arthas was allowed to keep his light-given powers as he culled stratholme of the men women and even the children.
he was doing something horrible, and evil, but he believed it to be good.
all in all, being a paladin is all about believing.
but don't forget, both Med'an and Meryl teleport later heh
they teleport, that I know, and I believe portals and teleportation do exist in wow from a lore point of view. but here we're talking about outland in specific.
I know meryl and med'an teleported to silhitus, and jaina also teleported varian and his forces in and out of the undercity, (and the alliance players in and out of orgrimmar) but I don't think I've yet to see from a lore PoV someone going to any zone in outland by another mean than the dark portal.
if it was that easy to port from outland to azeroth, kadghar would had done that a long time ago.
so yhea, portals exist in lore, as long as you know the destination where u're going, or you know someone who's at the destination you're going.
but as far as traveling to outland I think there are no alternatives other than the dark portal.

Ahoy Rank! I learned today that "kodo" sounds just like the Spanish word for "elbow." Now I can't stop imagining Tauren riding around on giant disembodied elbows.

:P in spanish elbow is spelled "Codo" but yhea, I see what you mean :P Kodo sounds exactly like Codo in spanish.
did you know that there's an NPC in silvermoon (a banker) called "Novia"?
it means Girlfriend in Spanish.
just be glad you don't play the localized spanish version of wow, I tried it once and almost puked, they butchered that thing with the WORST TRANSLATION EVER.
is like they mistranstlated stuff on purpuse.
their greatest blasphemy is when they translated Doomhammer to "Martillo Maldito", (aka "God-damned Hammer)
or their translation of Undercity to Entrañas (AKA Entrails /facepalm)

But yeah. I bet it's fun being bilingual... :P I'm still a Spanish n00b, so I wouldn't really know... :P

that's a 1-way portal only, from azeroth to outland it may not work that way.
Heh, yeah, I've heard stories about how terrible the translation is... :P Maybe from you, actually. :P
hehe, if I started I could hardly stop, it's so awefull that if you saw the most severe of them, you could prolly yank your hair in frustration.
let's not even talk about the voice-actors used, the spanish actor for Thrall has a SQUEAKY VOICE, he sounds like a teletubbie, the voice of Tirion litteraly sounds like he's mechancally reading a script.
the one that will truly make anyone turn off the sound in frustration is the voice of Darion in spanish.
=/ at least in spanish they didn't used Metzen to voice 9 out of every 10 male characters.
for true awesomeness try the Korean version of wow :P now that has some FRIKKING EPIC VOICE ACTING, I dunno if the translations are good or not, but the actors are AWESOME, hear the creepy voice of the lich king in korean and you won't be wanting to hear any other actor ever again. the scuffle of sylvannas vs arthas in Halls of Reflections on the korean version of wow can only be described on 1 word.
EPICNESS!
:P
