From the dev chat on Cataclysm.
Proof that Blizzard have ignored their own Lore.

Q. Why did the Night Elves bring the Worgen into the Alliance, and were described as "old allies"?
A. The men and women of Gilenas were the "old allies."
There goes the druidism explanation theory, the trailer was actually referring to the Alliance of Lordaeron >.<
I thought they were talking about the Night elf and Worgen's connection to Elune..
So did I.

I actually like this explanation better, it leaves a much bigger lore option available.

Where is the druidism explanation ?
How come another former member of the Alliance of Lordaeron returning open so many options ?
Well, if the worgen have no connection to Elune then they have to get there druid powers from somewhere else. And back when I thought it meant the worgen and nelfs were old allies I took it to mean they were from Azeroth's past.
Now with it settled that the only old allies are reffering to the Gilneas human parts of them, the history of the worgen is still somewhat unknown.

Maybe the original worgen race had an affinity for it? And that affinity was passed through the curse.

For creatures of Azeroth. But worgen arn't from Azeroth - as far as we know.
Have you read what happens with the Scythe around:
After the Scythe was freed, a change rippled through the mine. Light from our flickering torches warped, and the strength of our voices seemed beyond our control. Sometimes a man's whisper roared through the tunnels forcing hands on ears, and sometimes our shouts barely traveled a few steps before diminishing into a hint on the wind

That's very, very different from the Azeroth we know.

I trust Blizzard to provide an explanation. If the Night Elves to bring the Worgen into the fold in-game, I trust that there will be an explanation. If there is not an explanation, it would not make sense, and people would point it out in testing. If the Night Elves are the ones that bring the Worgen into the Alliance, then we are arguing only over something we saw in the trailer, which of course is not entirely canon.
And if their explanation involves a retcon (the Night Elves met the Gilneans when Malfurion and Tyrande came over, or whatever), I won't really mind. I've come to just accept retcons as they come, even if I liked the other version better. They haven't re-retconned anything I've complained about yet.

Not only are the spirits of Nature universal but that could be credited to billions of things that aren't even remotely linked to worgen use of druidic magic. The magical bending of reality required for magical teleportation and portals come to mind.
Another fact that counters worgen affinity to Nature would come from classic WoW as well. The book of Ur claims that the Worgen are shadow creatures and so is their magic.
That book was written by a non-worgen, how he interpreted what he saw might not mean what he thinks it does.
For example, if you went to a foregin(spelling) country and saw two men holding hands. What would you think? Would you first think "they must be gay" or would you think "that must be a custom here"?
Although that dosn't prove they have an affinity for nature magic, it does prove that they - as a race - may not be evil.

The book was also written by a magic expert and his observations have always been true. The playable worgen are the first ones who use a kind of magic that isn't shadow.
Even an expert can be wrong, and we only belive he is correct because there are no sources that contradict him.
EDIT: I see.

The very fact that after 3 heavy summonings of worgen only shadow casters have appeared should be a major supporter of Ur's research that even acquired information on the worgen homeworld.
Of course, there's still the fact that they might be two distinct species out there too: The Worgen from the other dimension and then the Azeroth ones; those afflicted by the Curse instead of being 'purebloods'. After all, the ones we see before the gates open are unable to transform from one form to the next.
