Scared of Heroics!

Hello all!
I've been working on my warrior for a little bit now and shopping around for BoE epics so I can set foot in Heroics as a tank, but the one attempt I had in Heroic Violet Hold left me devastated. I held aggro perfectly and was the only one taking damage, but apparently my (decently geared) healer couldn't keep up with the amount of damage I was taking.
I am defense capped with 547 Defense Rating, and
here's the rest of my gear
. I don't want to go too crazy on enchants until most of my gear is at ilevel 200 or at least 187, but I seem to be stuck in a gap between regular Dungeons and Heroics. The upgrades I've been striving for are
Svala's Bloodied Shackles
,
Gal'darah's Signet
and the
Eternally Folded Blade
, but for the few times I've managed to find a group for these the items never dropped. I can't get my helmet enchanted with the
Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector
without the reputation from Heroics either. It's a devil's cycle!
Now, I don't want to step foot in Heroics again until I'm sufficiently prepared, but I can't start saving up for token items without doing Heroics either. Should I be able to do okay in the easier Heroics (UK, for example) and was the one time just a fluke, or are there things I need to definitely work on before even thinking about it?
Thank you for your feedback!

You're perfectly fine as far as gear goes. Your healer was just one of the many people who have gotten used to being carried through heroics.
I remember healing my first heroic about 2 weeks after WotLK came out. The tank had 19k hp and was a bit under 540 defense, I had 1300 sp and a tiny mana pool of about 14000.
Heroics are easy to heal

This, your healer was just slacking, clearly used to full epic geared tanks doing Heroics.
Just find yourself a healer who isn't a complete sausage and you'll be fine.
Heh, i called your healer a sausage

This, in such a big way.
I did exactly the same - tanked my first heroic with 541 defense (with an elixir of defense for heaven's sake!) and 19k health. That was maybe three weeks after Wrath came out. The healers were at the same gear level as my own healer...1300-1500 sp and about 12k-14k mana pool.
The dps were not yet breaking 2k with any regularity either, so yeah...long-ass fights.
/sigh at !@#$heads like that and consider yourself better off without them. Lazy 'tards.

Yep, your gear is absolutely fine, you've even got a good health pool and a passable amount of dodge/parry. The only boss in VH that is hard to heal with a less well geared tank is the annoying kited ethereal - when he drags everyone to him, he applies a very nasty debuff to the tank with causes them to take extra arcane damage, then spams them for some arcane damage, which can cause some quite severe health spiking. It's quite healable though, just needs some use of cooldowns to reduce the impact.
Any good healer will easily manage to keep you up through anything a heroic can throw at you 99% of the time. Hell, just for speed, we did a UK run a few days ago with myself, another fury warrior, an arms warrior and a ret paladin all with high health (talking 27k-ish in PvE DPS gear with buffs) but no mitigation abilities and the healer managed to keep us alive without major problems. A bit spammy in places, but no deaths. Heroics are not hard, any competent healer will be able to keep you up.

Regular ToC is your answer. Run that until you get all the epic tanking gear and you will be in good shape faster than going that other route with the blues.
Reg ToC
is pretty easy.

Sure you can. Do the Argent Tournament daily quests. They grant 250 rep each. You'l be at Revered before you know it.

You clever devil!
I totally forgot about that.
Thankyou all for your feedback :D I had a very successful set of runs in regular ToC last night and found myself an amazing healer who loves my tanking, so we'll cooperate and start to set foot in Heroics together next week.
