I wouldn't know the best place to ask, since Randomness is less than helpful, and it's too specific for General.
Since 3.1, every time I reformatted/wiped my computer and installed WoW, I had a problem with rendering terrain.
Here
is what I mean. It's just a purple pile of crap where the ground should be.
I've solved this before, but I've forgotten what to do.
I atleast know not to update the graphics drivers, since I've tried that already. Twice.
Many thanks.

Is it possible to upgrade a video card via free download?

I've updated the drivers already, they didn't work.
They're all up to date, except my ethernet cable driver, but that seems to work fine, and I doubt it's part of the problem...

Did you try the other stuff he mentioned?

Knowing what kind of video card you have would also help. In fact, knowing a lot more about system specs as well. Motherboard, video card, power supply (yes... power supply), operating system, etc etc.

Yes, 0 and 1 were registered, but did nothing.
2 and 3 returned the "Type /help" error.
EDIT: Apparently I can't post on the Official Forums...

Then you have made a typo.
/console doesn't give /help error even if you write "/console asdasdasdasdasd 123123"
Also did you remember to reload ui every time? I don't know if you need to restart the whole game or is the realoading enough.

I tried again, this time no typos. Still didn't work :/

Again.... in order to better help you, we'd want/need to know the rest of your system specs.
CPU
RAM
Video card manufacturer and model
Power supply
Operating system

That is what the Help & Support forum is for.

PSU: Most newer graphics cards have a seperate PCI-E power source. They draw almost a third of a systems power usage, and can behave poorly (both performance and artifacting) when under-powered.
RAM: A bad series of data-banks on a RAM stick could cause data corruption of the ground texture, leading it to be unrenderable. (This is unlikely, but possible).
Not sure how the CPU could be causing that effect specifically, but too much information when trying to diagnose a problem is never a bad thing.

1. No, it will not just shut off if the system is under volted. The voltage can be low enough to cause degradation of information without being so low as to not power the system. Just to illustrate my point, the RAM in my system is currently running at 1.65 volts and 1600 Mhz, but it's designed to run at 1.5 volts and 1066 Mhz. If I had left the RAM at 1.5 volts, it would still run, but it would not be able to achieve the same 1600 Mhz that I get with the higher voltage. This same thing happens to graphics cards. If they get enough voltage to physically run, but not enough to perform up to their listed specifications, the card will begin to act oddly (artifacting, losing textures, etc.)
2. It's not as low as you think it is. If the user runs the same applications at start up, and runs wow, the locations of the textures inside of the graphics card's memory space are going to be very close to each other. I'm not stating that this is likely, but it is possible, especially when dealing with large textures (I've actually seen it happen before).
3. If it were a game issue then there would be MANY more reports of it. What you're implying is a far less likely cause than something wrong on his end.

I think it may be a problem with terrain.MPQ. Repair.exe won't fix it, looks like I'll have to reinstall :/

Reinstall won't work either. :(
I've also asked tech support, nothing there, since they won't answer and the server instability won't let me post...
