The way we pull is to have everyone stand off to the side except the tanks.
Have a pally (any spec, really) pull Auriaya and then bubble, allowing her to get close to the group and tanks can not have to worry about taunting. Then the healers need to go apefeces on the tanks for the pull. Once you survive that, the rest of the fight is cake (as long as you kill the adds away from the group)

Yep, pull is key.
We usually have the OT pick up one of the cats and have the MT tank the boss and second cat. The main reason for this was that we found that having both cats away from the raid just increased the number of pounces to ridiculous levels. We have the melee dps concentrate on the MT's kitty while the ranged dps nuke the OT's kitty.
We also pop cooldowns on the pull just to make those kitties die. Bloodlust/Heroism is awesome here as it really helps the healers keep you up in those critical first seconds.
On a side note; as well as shammy totems, D&D and pally bubbles, and hunter can MD a trap (not sure if this is just SV hunters), and we found that random bits and pieces people had in their bags could be used to safely pull her as well.
The engineering gun turret thing, a crashin' thrashin' racer or eye of kilrogg, for example.

I think they key mistake you're making is seperating the cats from the group. If any raid member is too far away fro the cats they open themselves up to being pounced which does massive damage. The way we do it is to all stack up together in front of the boss, and regroup asap after a fear. This limits how often the cats will pounce people and reduces raid damage overall.
When you're tanking the cat that spawns after the first two die, you'll probably notice it's hard to keep aggro on it, i'm not sure if it aggro resets or just randomly switches targets for certain attacks but so long as everyone is grouped up the damage should be able to be healed through.

you also want to split the cats up, especially since you're not overgeared for this yet. auriaya is the least of your problems on the pull.
have the OT grab one cat, and have the MT grab the other cat + boss. kill the cat the MT has first, then the OT cat, then everyone on auriaya. they buff each other when both are alive, so it's only a short time you have to live through the really hard hits.
i always shield wall on the pull, even now. why not? you won't need it the rest of the fight anyway. having a hunter helps a lot on the pull; that way the tanks can just target the cats the whole time, and the hunter can MD the cat lady.

Mark one with skull, one with x, vigilance on the MT. Have a rogue or hunter (if present) to attack x with misdirect on you. Once you dragged both together (mocking blow on skull) nuke skull as hard you can with cleave queued on every autoswing, tc and shockw at every cd, when skull is at 50% hit battlestance, press retaliation, go back to def stance and target x.
