What do you ENJOY? That's all that matters.

Both are great fun, I'm dual specced Disc/shadow, though in a raid environment I rarely get to use my shadow spec once people find out I'm a competent healer. It's nice to have the option to melt some faces if you get burned out on healing a six hour ulduar run one weekend, and run as shadow the next. You'll learn a lot about the various encounters experiencing it from two diffrent roles. Loatheb as a healer and as a DPS are two completely different fights.
Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

i've only just started and i did ask for opinions not "What do you ENJOY?"
Well that's the thing. Your opinion is different from my opinion. I love healing, DPSing is meh, a nice break occasionally, but don't love it, while other people love melting faces with healing occasionally. It really does just boil down to what you enjoy.

if you read all of these threads often, you will get the sentiment that Shadow DPS, unless there are no other hybrid classes to provide renew are around, has to PROVE or BEG to get into one of the raid slots....while healing on the other hand, well lets say you won't be left behind often unless your guild already has several healers that LOVE to heal...(also keeping in mind the idea that the guild might have "raid healers" that love to heal, but some pallies that would rather go ret than holy).
Honestly, if you are just looking for game time ask the coach, or in this game the raid leader, and see what they need. Thats what I did saying "i want to raise a healing character, what should I roll" and the response was "well we have a dependable tree and a couple of pallies, so probably the best would be a priest, and just for old memories of "LF Dwarf priest" because they had fear ward.....

So true on the heals/dps thing. With nearly everybody hit capped at this point, Misery isn't as appealing as it used to be (and shares a bonus with Boomkin's Imp Faerie fire, who are in turn more desired for that tasty Moonkin Aura), and with Ret pallies being so popular these days, we're not nessesary for Replenishment 99% of the time, either. In the raid buff department we pretty much bring a Shadow Ward with a higher duration, -although an extra Divine Hymn can be beneficial- so it's easy to see why a S.Priest might get left out.
So yeah, it's much easier to get spots as a healer, and a good healing priest is ALWAYS going to be in high demand.

hmm, true, if dual is your nature, its easier to gear Disc with Shadow then the other two options...(mostly because i get lost sometimes when really figuring out if a item is better for holy or not)
