What exactly should Elemental Shammies do on those AOE fights / trash pulls ? I've been using my regular rotation, except I use Chain lightning whenever it is up (usually twice between lava bursts). I'm lagging far behind pretty much everyone else, and tought you could argue trash dps is irrelevant I'd like to contribute to faster runs. I know I'm probably never gonna be on par with classes who have Ground target chaneling AOE spells or classes with PBAOEs but is there a "right" rotation / priority list for those fights? Should i be using magma totem ? (tought I'd have to move up and lose time I could be casting). It's not a gear related problem as in boss fights I can easily keep up with even "pure" dps classes.

Yeah, run in - toss Magma and Thunderstorm (Glyphed, naturally) and go nuts with Chain Lightning. :)

I'd hate to be the Ele Shaman who forgot to Glyph their Thunderstorm before a raid...
...but yea, basically this. Depending on the fight you may also want to drop down a Tremor/Cleansing Totem in the middle since everyone's gonna be in the thick of things as well (along with everything else of course!).

Meh, I don't worry about trash on my Shaman. I raid a Mage as well, it's their job to take out the trash :)
Drop your Wrath of Air, Totem of Wrath and hurl lightning around at random, and let the AoE classes go nuts. When I'm playing my Mage, I'm always careful to stand near those totems. It's why I rolled Elemental .. I want to be the guy that casters beg to be included.
And as soon as the raid leader calls for Bloodlust/Heroism, everyone in the raid will know they can't live without you :)
Pretty much all of this is spot on. Especially the Bloodlust / Heroism bit...if we lost that unique ability, Shaman would be done in raids IMO.

I don't glpyh my Thunderstorm. I figure that trash really means nothing, and the AOE from Tstorm isn't too great anyway, so I would rather have the knockback effect for when it can be a lifesaving ability (ex, back in Naxx, helped with zombie chow, Razorscale in Ulduar, when mobs reach healers standing in back, knock them right to the tanks, etc...).
The knockback has a little more utility than people give it credit for and its not like you lose any REAL damage, just a couple extra DPS to pad an overall meter which doesn't matter.
My RL would boot your ass if you did something like that, even if it were a "lifesaving ability". The risk of pulling even more trash or mobs than intended and causing a wipe far outweighs those once-in-a-blue-moon moments when you have to cause a knockback to save face, IMO. If the healers are getting attacked, your OT should do his job and taunt them back to him, pure and simple.

AoE from Tstorm isnt that great?
It has done ~20k+ burst dps for me many times

there's no need to glyph away the knockback if you know how to use it without getting everyone gangraped by adds, learn how to use your spells then be greatful it has the knockback when you need it, i refuse to glyph my offspec boomkin to remove typhoon's because in an aoe situation starfall+hurricane is the way to go anyway and for those situations similar to what he stated (XT, gluth, razorscale, etc) it's a lifesaver
now admittedly it is the only aoe the shaman casts themselves without a target limit but shaman aren't built for mass aoe, they're built for superior single target dps and utility, work with your strengths or yell at your holy priests for not jumping around a pull spamming holy nova or holy pallies not consecrating
tldr: learn how to use your spells, be grateful they do what they do, play your strengths, recount only matters to an extent and that usually isn't found on trash pulls

If you need lifesaving with knockbacks your guild is fail.

I honestly ain't concerned about my AoE abilities or lack there of, i stick to single target dps, which most boss fights tend to be.
I stick to one at a time and do the best dps on that one target as i possibility can, in the end however, the mages, warlocks and balance druids are the ones with good aoe spells and i tend to look to them to do the most aoe dps.

Honestly, the reason I glyphed my Thunderstorm isn't only because of the removal of the Knockback, it's also the mana increase (giving 25% more mana than un-glyphed is win).

if it's not a boss just sit there... lol jk, yeah chuck down some magma... if your tank annoys you then do some unglyphed TS but otherwise keep it in your pants, and throw around some chain lightnings, keep FS up on multiple targets... it's kinda complicated for kinda disappointing results...

I wouldn't even bother on FS on anything but your main target. The adds should go down with Magma / TS just fine, and the amount of time it takes to apply more than one FS is far longer than your CL to come off of cooldown.
Also, unless you've got an assigned RL, as a DPS you do what your healers/tanks tell you. Both of them are there to keep YOUR ass alive, and your "huge numbers" don't mean jack if they aren't doing their job. Don't make it harder for them by knocking all of the mobs every which way and force them to chase each of them down.
