They have stickies for a reason. Maybe they should call them pointies instead, so we can throw them at people who don't read them.

My suggestion is this. Find out if you want to be resto/boomkin or feral later on. If you decide to be feral I would go Tauren as their health bonuses gives you that extra uumph for stamina. If you want to be resto/boomkin find which race you like the animations of because your going to be seeing it alot.
My night elf druid leveled feral for most of her life until 70-80 when I was boomkin geared so stayed it. You can successfully heal an instance as boomkin spec but people argue you run out of mana too quick while leveling. As for feral, you can tank any instance as long as you get the appropriate talents and you never have to use your mana while leveling so it can go strictly to healing yourself.
All in all, just find what you like to do more and be that spec. Its a game, have fun with it.

the tauren health bonus is so insignificant but at the same time the racials will be redone in cataclysm with the currently known racials however..
Nelf=bear
worgen=cat
troll=pve moonkin/tree
tauren=pvp moonkin/tree

Race is pretty much decided when you choose a faction. Spec would be feral to level, it is widely regarded as the best leveling spec and I completely agree. For gear there's not a whole lot of choices while leveling, basically all leather is going to fall into two categories, feral or caster. Cloth is right out for feral and that is the only two you can use.
Also a note on races, while for bears the extra HP from
Endurance
is welcomed, it is by no means game-breaking. Base health is rather low and not altered by stam (giving you around 400-450 extra hp total ).
Quickness
(Night Elf) imo, is by far the better choice.

front flips are fine, nerf blood elves' spinning jump >_>

Stomp=free cast. It's OP in every way compared to shadow meld for pvp. The only use I've found for shadow meld in PvP is ditching pets.

NE Quickness is
a lot
better for tanking then the Taurens extra stamina.
As has been posted here:
Bear tanking: NE for better avoidance
DPS: Both are equal
Healing: Both are equal
"Serious" PvP: Tauren for the stun
World PvP: NE because Shadowmeld + Flight Form rocks
Leveling: NE because Shadowmeld is beyond awesome.
Looks: Nobody can seriously chose to be a big fat ugly cow, right? Be an elf already! ;)
Leveling as feral is fastest since it has no downtime. Once you hit Outland leveling as Moonkin is about equal. All specs are viable at lvl 80 and awesome for raiding.

Shadowmeld
is also another awesome racial for druids. It's the only other ability in the game (besides
Vanish
) that lets you break combat afaik. I'm leveling Horde rogue and druid alts right now, and the only rogue ability I miss on my druid is Vanish. Being able to break combat is one of the most useful and rare abilities in the game.
For example if you're questing in Outland and Northrend and pull too many mobs and are about to die, use a Shadowmeld macro to escape - break combat and pop flight form and fly away :
#showtooltip
/use Shadowmeld
/use Flight Form
Or if you get ganked and aren't prepared, use the same to escape and fly away (or stealth and pounce if you don't have any dots on you and want to fight.)
#showtooltip
/use !Cat Form
/use Shadowmeld
/use Prowl
Several good druid Shadowmeld macro's at
wowwiki
to give you an idea of what's possible.
If I loved Druids more than Horde, I'd switch to Alliance in a heartbeat for Shadowmeld and Quickness (though I'm more a pve'er than pvp'er).

Yeah, though I did say "for bears" :)

How is that supposed to work? Shadowmeld will throw you out of cat form and get you back to humanoid form. You can't Prowl without cat. Maybe
#showtooltip
/use Shadowmeld
/use Cat Form
/use Prowl
? No idea if that will actually break combat and leave you mobile as cat. I doubt it.
