The term marriage was used far before Christianity even existed. So perhaps instead we should call marriage what it is and a Christian union a "spiritual union"? I do not agree with Christianity attempting to claim that they were the origin of things, its disgusting, and partially why I think the religion as an establishment is retarded. I mean, I don't have any problem with people who think Jesus is the son of god or whatever, but its the actual organized religion that I think is just down right stupid. Next the Christian establishment is going to claim it is the source of morality... err, actually I think its already done that before, lol.

No it aint. If it was then why is In God We Trust and other things on te money?
That was added in 1957.
America wasn't founded in 1957.
America was founded specifically with the intention of seperation of church and state.

Deepthought, I don't see how that answers his question.
I'd like to know too, why we include the word 'god' in the pledge of allegiance, and that I'm forced to say it every day at school?
Along with why 'In god we trust' is on our tender.
It was
FOUNDED
under the idea of seperation of church and state.
However, over the last century or so, because of people like McCarthy, the Christian church has slowly seeped it's doctrine into the government's works.

I'm going to throw a wrench into things and ask: what is a right?
So many people seem to be under the impression that if they really, really,
really
want something, it becomes a right.
I would posit that a right is something intrinsic to human nature, which is why we call them inalienable. So then we'd have to get into the debate whether inalienable rights are something that the government has any say over.
Separation of Church and state. That seems to be the big pro-gay argument. OK, if that's the case then the government shouldn't have anything to do with any marriage, straight or not. All they have the authority to do is make contracts, which should be the same for any two people regardless of sex. Essentially it would be akin to legal adoption.
So rather than advocate gay marriage, I'd advocate the abolition of all legal-marriages and replace a civil union/power of attorney system.

That's just wrong, in my opinion.
If keep wishing REALLY HARD, maybe it'll just go away.

This is pretty much it.
EDIT:
I think "in our personal opinions about omnipotentt and omniscient beings we trust" would be better.
Although I don't personally think In God We Trust should be on our money, and in our pledge of aliegence, I do see the argument for it.
The majority of the country is Christian, and what the majority believes in is, most of the time, what becomes official. Before you argue that doesn't make sense, think politics.
Just playing a little devil's advocate. ;)
Counterpoint: The abolition of slavery, women's rights, civil rights.
Edit 2: Spelling.

Fair enough, though taking away/leaving "in god we trust" where it is in our society wouldn't affect how people are treated.
You can't prove that. It's already been used in this topic as an arguement against gay marriage.
