Well from what you wrote your doing everything right, you have an AoE taunt if you have to use that.
And yes you should use vig on the highest AoE'er imo, it'll help with threat and such, once you find a decent pair of epic gloves add 2% threat and +10 parry to them, that should help a bit.
#showtooltip cleave
/startattack
/use [] Devastate
/use cleave
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
If you copy the macro i listed about you will be able to use 1 buttom to spam, devastate and cleave at the same time. The good thing about this is that if you put your mouse cursor over an enemy or its health bar/unit from, it will use devistate on that target, while you will are auto attacking the target you began on.
Personally i found this
VERY
usful, it made AoE tanking a lot easier. But basically the best advice i can give it to just hold out and stick with it until you get better gear, it will become a lot easier later on. Good luck i hope everything works out.
Take care.

0. Use Bloodrage and Berserker Rage before Charge.
Or use berserker rage, then heroic throw, then bloodrage and finally charge when mobs are positioned. Bloodrage generates AoE threat - not a lot, but still something. DPSers with half a brain won't start nuking until you have charged in anyway.

i dont use any fancy macros while tanking i just find it easier to do Heroic throw, charge, thunderclap, shockwave, demo shout devistate/thunderclap spam somehow i hold agro pretty damn well. And if somthing pulls off you, Taunt

I1.) No marking (not my fault when I'm not leader)
Yes it is. If the leader isn't marking, you need to demand that either he marks or passes lead to you. And get an addon that makes marking easy so you don't hold the group up.
2.) Everyone is attacking different monsters and/or AoEing
Marking solves the first, and if they're AoEing they should either a) give you a second and watch they're threat or b) have a threat wipe ready. Either way, it's their fault if they die.
3.) I don't have that many AoE moves!
I sooo hate it when warriors say this. We have 2 AoEs + one three-target attack (with no CD and which is off the GCD) and Paladins have 1 AoE, one four-target attack and one three-target attack.
Here's my setup... I'm always open to advice and constructive criticism;
1.) Charge, followed immediately by (if all the monsters are in range)
2.) Thunder Clap (If not, demo shout)
3.) Demoralizing Shout (while try to line them up for4)
4.) Shockwave! And now I'm out of AoE spells...
5.) Thunder Clap spam, Cleave spam
Here's my typical "rotation":
Bloodrage
Heroic Throw a target other than the main target (unless it's a caster pull)
Charge the main target with a cleave macro'd into it
Thunderclap (keep spamming cleave)
Shield Slam main target (cleave)
Shockwave (cleave)
Revenge/Devastate(cleave)
Thunderclap (cleave)
I also tend to dish out a few abilites on the monster that I'm fighting and then alternate between mobs, slapping them with some HS', Devastates, + a SS... but this is inefficient and gimps my (and the parties) dps, I think... Need more advice here.
Again, marking solves this. Focus on "skull" until he's at 50%, at which point you should be far enough ahead that you can tab to the next target while they finish him off without you loosing threat. Rinse and repeat.
In a group that knows their stuff I should never have to worry about this, but seeing as how I pug a bunch, and the tank always takes the flack, I figured I'd like to just never wipe and get +rep. How can I remedy this?
Assert yourself. If you take charge right off the bat, people will be less inclined to give you flack. And when something
is
your fault, take full responsibility, tell them what you did wrong and what you'll be doing to fix it next time around.
I use vigilance on the highest damage producer most of the time, but for fights that are AoE intensive I use it on the healer...--?--> Should I use it on the biggest AoEer instead?
Vig does nothing for the healer. If the healer pulls aggro 3% dmg reduction isn't going to do much. it shoudl Always go on the highest dps, because then it's essentially a 20% threat increase for you (10% to you and 10% from the guy you're competing with).

There is reflective damage to consider too, which is threat you don't have to do anything to get.

True, but paladins have that too, so I didn't even bother bringing that it.

I tell all the warriors who have AoE issues these 3 basic rules:
1) Correct your initial pull
2) Use Thunderclap when off CD
3) Spam Cleave after the initial setup (get glyph of cleaving)
With just Thunderclap and Cleave you should be able to hold aggro over most dps.
In terms of initial setup, I do the following:
1) Mark targets
2) Bloodrage
3) Heroic Throw caster
4) Wait till they get within range and charge
5) Thunderclap
6) Shockwave
7) Spam Cleave
From there you can use Shield block, Shield slam the main target, Devistate, etc. Cleave is next attack and doesn't share your GCD so that should be spammed at all times. You should be alternating Thunderclaps, Shield Slams, Devistates, Revenge with the GCD.
As for the amount of AoE abilities, Hyperspacerebel is correct in that most tanks have the same amount. You should see bears aoe tank with swipe, they basically just spam 3 abilities.

Wow this is nice and useful, I tank as bear but recently got my Warrior to 80 and I'm just beginning to get my tank set together.
Saved to WarriorTank bookmarks for future reference :P

Another idea might be to get a titanium shield spike. This way after you initially pulled the mobs with AoE moves, each time they hit you they just generate more threat themselves. Thought I don't know if it's better than the stamina enchant - what do you think?
It's not every time they hit you. It's every time you block an attack.
I suppose if you have a dedicated alternate shield that you want to use for trash and you want to put a shield spike on it, then go for it. I wouldn't put a shield spike on your main shield though.
