I, and I'm sure many others, find themselves instantly pulled into any political argument they can find, even if there is no chance of changing the opposition's position and you've debated it hundreds of times already.
The question posed by this topic is simple: why? Why do we pull ourselves into repetitive conflicts that damage friendships with no point? They're certainly not fun, and most often result in a great deal of palm-to-face contact at high velocity.

A: the hunger for opposition.
I agree with this. I don't argue alot, except when there's a good reason for it (ppl bein dumb, etc) But i do know people that argue for the sake of argument. I actually had a GF that broke up w/ me cuz i never argued with her (like WTF?)

Personally, out of frustration.
polotics affects ppl like you and me, and due to the decisions someone else made, I have to adhere to a certain standard.
And because most ppl dont think for themselves, so I guess I live in hope that if they can believe <insert opposing opinion here> perhaps they can change their mind with a bit of logic.

I'd wager to say that most people here don't use much logic, and are more likely to appeal to emotion. That's why you have to throw insanely ridiculous statements out when arguing here, because otherwise you're not going to get your point across. I don't like it, but that's the game that you play here.

Why? Because I can't stand to see people say things without backing them up. I'll rip anyone apart whether I agree with them or not, if they're just throwing things down without taking the time to understand what they are saying. And I have the hope - perhaps false hope - that instead of convincing them their view is wrong and mine is right, I can can get them to think for themselves and at least put some effort into backing up their claims.

I guess you mean the kind of argument that you'd make with Vikey trying to explain him that Rihanna in fact *does* suck ass?
