Struggling with Disc Tier gear...what to choose?

It's hard to know what to suggest without seeing your disc gear. Holler next time you log out in that gear.
Also, it doesn't look like you're doing too much raiding, so your upgrades will be from Conquests and Triumphs from daily heroics, is that right? If you will have access to Trophies (and the other gear in Trial of the Crusader, both 10 and 25 man), that makes a big difference in how you'd spend those emblems.

Here you go
. It's a Lootrank page that excludes any items from raids...so heroics, purchaseables/craftables, and emblem gear only. Adjust the stat weightings to suit your own tastes, and go to town :)

Funny, I literally logged into the forums looking for this exact discussion.
I'm actually leaning in the opposite direction from Surranhealz. I'm not very enamored of the two or four piece bonuses, and since my guild uses dkp I'm actually tempted to skip most of the 245 level tier altogether. Here are the pieces I'm thinking about to bridge the gap between tier 8.5 and the 258 tier 9.5, with my goal being to spend minimal dkp now and save it for 258 drops:
Hood of Clouded Sight
(I have the Emblems for this right now)
Tier 9.25 Shoulders
(I already have these, and the trophy was expensive)
Merlin's Robe
(I'll drop my Triumph Emblems on the orbs when the vendor makes them available)
Handwraps of the Lifeless Touch
(Went fairly cheap the first time they dropped, cheaper than a trophy for sure)
Legwraps of the Demonic Messenger
(We have this boss on farm, and none of the other clothies in my ten man want these)
This setup gives me 7% crit and 4.8% haste. That's a satisfactory tradeoff versus the PoM tier bonus imo. Since the gloves are the only item that will cost dkp, I'll have plenty to spend on
Solace
, and then I really won't have to spend any dkp til the 258 drops. At that point, set bonus or no, the tier 9.5 are BiS, and I'll have ample amounts of dkp to obtain them.
Of course if you're free rolling or loot counciling gear, there's little point to this approach.

Unfortunately, I've found myself having to revert back to a pure disc playstyle in TotGC, both 10 and 25 man, meaning I've backed way off the shield spam and focused almost solely on tank healing again. According to my logs, I'm not keeping the Disciplined Power buff up near as often as I used to (down to between 55-70% of the time). It's looking like the overall stat increases from the level 245 gear will help balance out the loss of a set bonus that costs a lot mana and GCD's to maintain.
I wish I could see myself clearing TotGC 25 man in my tier 8.5, but qthe challenges it presents are forcing me to look for overall upgrades wherever I can get them.

100% agree with your last two posts turkey. My gear list is identical (except I plan to buy the tier helm).
The Demonic legs are strangely unappealing to people, perhaps because they're "only" 245, despite being the best crit legs in the game.
And get that vendor here now! I have orbs to buy!

The helm was a dkp value call. If the trophies weren't in such high demand in my guild, I'd be all over the tier helm. And since only one of our healers so far has Solace (and it cost him a fortune), I need to save all my dkp if I want the next one.
And yeah, Paolo, I'd love to know when that vendor will have orbs available. My priest already has the cloth and shards, and he even got the pattern last week. It's just a matter of getting my hands on eight orbs...
Oh, and breaking that tier 8.5 set was actually kind of liberating. I got to reequip
an item
that was sitting in my bank for far too long lol. Click on my profile to check out what it did for my stats. I need the mp5 off Solace more than ever now though...

I know all the
arguments
, Hidden, I made them all myself a couple of weeks ago. But if I'm only keeping the sp buff up 50-70% of the time, I'm not getting anywhere near the 250 sp throughout the course of the fight. I just don't have room in my tank rotations or my mana bar for a shield spam every 5 secs anymore. TotGC is that intense, and I love it for being so.
That 8.5 set bonus is amazing, but in my situation the sp doesn't outweigh the boosts to crit, haste, and int that I'll get by breaking it. Not to mention I'm pretty content with my current sp.

T8 shadow helm
for fights when I expect that haste will be needed more than the 4pc bonus. And I completely agree about breaking the set being liberating...I find its mechanic to be very distracting. The T9 bonuses, as weak as they are, are passive, which means they won't affect your normal playstyle much at all. That aspect of the bonuses I think is wonderful.
@hiddenprayer: I think the argument about the T8 4pc being BiS is one that works more in theory than in practice.

Just be aware that Shields (through Rapture) accounts for about 1/3 of your mana regen plus attributes to your crit% through Grace. As well as 3% less damage on the entire raid (if you dont already have a Paladin using Blessing of Sanctuary). So try and keep those shields up.
Also if you dont mind the rediculousness of it, you can also look at the shadow gear from a Disc point of view. I used the T7 shadow helm for a little while just because it matched my needs better then other gear that was available.
I've actually considered buying some shadow set pieces for my healing set, or at least the ones loaded up with crit rather than haste. I want to maintain the 2 piece T9 bonus though, it's very nice.

doesn't affect crit %, you must be confusing it with
Weakened Soul
, which, believe me, is on the tank 100% of the time. The 3% damage reduction lasts twenty seconds, a full five seconds longer than Weakened Soul, giving me more than enough time to refresh PW:S on the tank to keep the buff up.
As far as Rapture's mana returns, they are nice on predictable damage if you can take that much time away from the tank to spam as much of the raid as possible. But from what I've seen in TotGC so far, I don't have the time, nor can I risk the mana if one of those shields breaks early. It's time to let the raid healers earn their pay. I'll probably just have to accept the mana return from one shield pop every twelve seconds for a bit, and try to get reliable mana returns elsewhere.
For the last point, T8.5 had a nice shadow helm I wore for a while, but unfortunately every T9-9.5 piece has hit, haste, or is a stat duplicate of the holy version anyway. No haste/crit pieces available there I'm afraid.
