Druids are extremely fun and versatile.
QFT.
I leveled my druid as boomkin as well, its not that bad but if you are going to level as boomkin, i found having plenty of drinks in your bags helpfull
:)
I too leveled as boomkin, it's quite nice. I believe with new changes to innervate, you don't need as many drinks, but I leveled before that.
I too had plate wearers before, and boomkin isn't much different. You get a ton of armor in the form (

), you can just stand there and keep shooting mobs as they beat on you - you're no priest. That's even true if you got some cloth pieces, you still have a lot more armor from the form.
A cat on the other hand, is more like a rogue, you don't want to get hit, since you don't get any multiplier from the boomkin form. And I didn't really like being a cat.
And of course, as you play a boomkin, you have to keep this song in your head:

I started off as feral then decided to give boomkin a go. I really liked boomkin but decided the mana use caused too much down time so I went back to feral. When I hit NR I went back to boomkin/resto dual spec and haven't looked back. Of all the classes I've played druid is my favorite.

What you have to understand with Druids, is we are the masters of none, but a jack of all trades. We are not the best at anything. An equally skilled/geared rogue should always out DPS a cat, but often times cat is very close. So if you want a class that can be good at any roll, you found it. If you don't like that prospect, then the druid isn't for you.
:)
Completely wrong. This whole "masters of none" stuff gest thrown around often but it is just silly. We are masters at everything.
There is no pure healing class in the game. Every healer is a hybrid (every healer can have a dps spec). There is no balance issue with making Druids just as good as other healing classes. And we are - in fact we are the best mobile raid healing class in the game.
There is no pure tanking class in the game. Every tank is a hybrid (every tank can have a dps spec). There is no balance issue with making Druids just as good as other tanking classes. And we are - in fact our superior health pool actually makes us a little overpowered for the current end-game encounters.
As for dps: Yes, pure dps classes are supposed to beat our dps by a tiny amount. We are talking about ~2% here. But for that we bring awesome support to the raid (combat rez!).
Jack of all trades, yes. And master in all, too.

whoa no!
Look at the healing charts. Any decently played and geared druid should outheal all but a priest (in raids, assuming that the competition doesn't have some awesome skills). Druid is regularly high in the DPS charts. and have you SEEN the requirements for a feral tank? 45k health and 50% dodge? Def capped for 3 points?
