Disc is a healing tree, much like holy. It feels very different to play, but it's still fundamentally a healing spec. If you're already that clear you don't want to play holy, then I'm confident you won't want to play discipline.
(Some long-time disc priests, including me, do not want to play holy either. But that's based on the joy of disc healing, not a dislike of healing in general.)

I think "long-time" is a bit of a stretch, don't you think Paolo? Disco has only recently become so greatly different from Holy, at least in the grander scheme of WoW's timeline. Although, I did play Disco/holy during BC a lot being the IDS ^&*!@ for the raid. ;-) if that's what you're referring to...

Disc is more focused on preventing damage with instant PW:Shields that can be applied to multiple people before damage. It also has a powerful heal Penance that is very fun, flashy, and applies it's first heal instantly. It has good mana regen, and is more single target oriented. However, we still have group healing capabilities.
You will often hear that disc priests are hard to kill. I keep moving in Wintergrasp, throwing instant shields and heals on the raid. I feel I've frustrated the opposite faction many times. It's great fun.
I know you said you don't want to be holy. If you want to be a healer, you may want to give disc a try. If you don't want to heal at all, then you should probably stay shadow.

So yes, I do consider 11 months to be "long-time" in this fast-changing world.
Prior to that I too was IDS, but by choice; the CoH style of spam-healing didn't appeal to me in the least. But I don't consider that to be relevant here; disc priesting in PvE really only started with 3.0.2.

dadansx you have me really interested now . How is it at questing alone ? I would think logically that it would be ideal since you can do damage and heal yourself . You said it is more single target , If I wanted to take down morethen one or two mobs i would need to go Shadow ?
You can quest as any of our trees. It's just that shadow can generally take down a mob faster. I have no problems doing dailies as disc.
As for taking down more than one mob, yes you can. There are 2 ways to do it. Keep yourself shielded and healed, dot them up and work on them, or Holy Nova. The only problem with Holy Nova is if you should run out of mana.
You could add the Holy Nova glyph, and maybe reflective shield. Get one of the trinkets in the game that give back mana when you kill a mob that gives honor or xp (
Oracle Talisman of Ablution
), and you become a Holy Nova machine. As your gear improves, mana also becomes less of an issue.
For farming things like chilled meat, I'll gather up 5 or 6 mobs and Holy Nova them down. When I was doing Oracle rep, there's a
quest to kill 50 Frenzyheart
. You are supposed to use a crystal to help, but I always had fun kiteing them with holy nova instead, and taking 20 down at a time. I could easily get them all down in 3 passes.
So no, I wouldn't let the fact that you may face more than one mob deter me from playing disc. It may even be a good reason to do it.
My remark about single target referred more to healing. Penance is remarkable, and we lack CoH. However, we still have PoH, multiple shields and renew, PoM, and Flash Heals. I am dual spec, but only use Holy for the Loatheb fight, for a nice PoH, CoH combo during our 3 seconds we can heal.

Thanks ......I will try Disc . I have noticed Priest are somewhat hard at the beginning to stay alive ...but very fun to play . I am going to enjoy playing her .
Nitefal
Hang in there. It can be a little slow at first. Always use your PW:Shield on yourself if you have it yet.
No matter what spec, put your first 3 points in spirit tap while leveling, and carry plenty of water. Also, get a good wand. While leveling, if you use a wand at the end of your spell rotation, you will save mana. Priests are awesome and very fun.

Shadow is generally considered the fastest leveling spec, especially at lower levels. That doesn't mean it's your only option. I leveled 1 to 70 as holy. It was slow at times, but doable.
I don't see any advantage to starting holy with the intention of going disc later. If that's the case, I'd just start disc. The choice is yours, and you can always switch no matter what you choose.

No matter what spec you decide to start with, I would advise you to pick up
Spirit Tap
and
Improved Spirit Tap
. Less downtime = faster leveling.
