Anyone hear or know if this will be optional? I'd rather not PUG with someone from a different realm for a heroic run.

I'm curious to know why you wouldn't want that? Not that there might not be valid reasons, but, to me, everyone's a stranger, whether they're on my realm or not. And do you have issues with cross-realm battlegrounds?

For one, roleplay reasons. I tend to RP with my characters. Not always in a dungeon run, I will admit, but it's my main means of getting to know someone and establishing a rapport for potential RP.
Also, we might all start out as strangers, but I'd like the option of being able to work with the better PUG'ers I find on other projects, too. (Tradeskills, Achievement runs, etc.) I am in a very small group of a couple of close friends, so PUG's and my friend list are the only way I can meet new people.
TLDR: Don't wanna waste my time grouping with people in dungeons if I won't ever see them again.
I don't PVP at all, so that doesn't bug me. I don't think it would, either, at all. PVP is way too frantic to chit chat. ;-)

I don't understand why people think this is a bad idea. I'm level 62 and it &*!@es me off that I missed out on doing so many instances. The only one I got to fully explore was BRD. With this there will be way more people to form groups with. Especially for the lower level instances.
I think it's a great idea. I just wanted to know if there is an
option
to turn it off for this one specific character. :)

I think I might just be lacking in some details. If you open the LFG tool, when you go into the LFG Channel, will the channel also include the other realms' people? I'm assuming it won't, and that the people in other realms will just be listed in the tool. In that case, you can still just ask in channel for people. Of course, I might have it wrong.
Most groups get together via the channel anyway. I prefer to just set myself in a Zone just so I can be in the text channel. It lets me "screen my calls" as it were.

I believe Blizzard will only allow you to group up with people in your battle group, to prevent these problems.

I must say, I don't like the idea much, because if you finally find some nice and competent people in a PUG, you won't be able to add them to your friends list and do stuff with them again another time..
Blizzard is working on that.

I really hope that this will be region-wide, and not limit to the battlegroups.
I also believe that this will be introtuced at the same time, or after, battle.net 2.0 goes live and becomes mandatory for WoW players. This would enable you to keep your friends list across realms and also form groups with them.
Personally, I'm really looking forward to this. I left a lot of nice people behind when changing servers with my characters. I'd really love to have an opportunity to team up with them again, every now-and-then. ^^
