I am glad they are re-rolling the Azshara zone.

For the first time, I decided to hit Azshara while leveling up. I typically skip it or only do a couple of quests there.
I am doing it with my Horde character. There are quite a few quests in this zone but they have nothing to do with anything. I am torn on my opinion about what the zone should have been up to this point.
On the one hand, it's probably one of the most historically significant areas in the entire world. It should be full of lore!
On the other hand, everything in the general vicinity was totally destroyed. There isn't anything left - nothing that would make it especially interesting.
Outside of the pesky naga and the rogue blood elves there, there isn't much going on there. You get to try to put down some Highborne spirits and try to save a Tauren in Undercity who drank the water.
I know there are some high level quest chains that run through the zone as well, but otherwise it's not interesting.
So I am happy that Blizzard will be re-rolling this zone in Cataclysm because I think that there is much potential here.

Yep. Second only to Desolace in "Oh my GOD, this place SUCKS!" factor.

worse that Alteric Mountains and Deadwind Pass?
Eh, Alterac has a lot of quests from all over, and Deadwind has Karazhan. Of course I'm wondering where the Mage/Hunter level 50 quests are going to be now.

Am I the only one who likes Desolace?
Probably because I hate STV.
Arathi Highlands. :3

STV is probably my most hated zone in the game. I am on PvE servers, so it isn't the ganking threat.
It's just so long and pointless. There are other zones that don't offer anything storywise, but they aren't so long.
I gave the example of Azshara, but if you settle in and do the few quests there, you just leave and never come back. The same with Desolace.
Even if you mix STV in with other changes of pace like Badlands, Swamp of Sorrows, Arathi Highlands, Alterac Valley, Dustwallow Marsh, and others ... it's still a pretty painful zone.
The quests are dumb. "Go rip some tusks out of a troll's head" or "Go collect that money this scum owes me" or "Go kill those tigers because ... well ... I don't want to."
Nearly all the quests are this way in STV and it becomes stale after a while, especially after you've done it fifteen times. I think this is my 7th time through it and I am finding it next to impossible. I dropped off to go level a higher level character for a few days just because I am so tired of the zone.

They'll probably remove any class-specific quests and make the rewards available through other means. If they do that, that would be really idiotic. I mean, making the epic land mounts for Locks and Pally trainable was the first stupid move, then doing the same for Epic Flight form for Druids just shows that Blizzard is trying to buy the "15-sec attention span" crowd. My pally recently hit 60 before the new patch, and I worked my arse off to get the quest done in time, I love the big chains like that, they make the game that much better.

They said that they're interested in doing
more
class quests with Cataclysm. It would be bizarre for them to then go and completely remove a bunch of old class quests.

Wouldn't be surprising considering that - outside of DKs - they haven't added any since the original game (even so much as level 1 "take this letter to your class trainer" ones for Blood Elves/Draenei).Wow, must have been sleeply not to notice that. There are "new" class quests on Azuremyst and Silvermoon for all the classes, same as there are in the old starting zones. Yes there haven't be any new ones (I'm guessing you completely missed the Paladin Blood Knight stuff at 60 somehow, your probably one of those who just bought the mount at 61 instead of doing the chain), but they have done some alterations. Again, WotLK is really really really dumbed down compared to Vanilla and BC, I'm hoping cataclysm will bring out new stuff for quests.

Aye, I know, like I said, Blizzard is dumbing down warcraft big time. I'm hoping that with Cataclysm, we'll see lots of new quest classes and profession quests.

Yes, I'm with you but I'm hoping they will be quest chains that can be soloed, rather than have them end up in some dungeon which will at some point become obsolete.
I think that Blizzard getting rid of the Paladin and Warlock epic mount quests was really ridiculous. They could've revamped the quests instead of scrapping them. I did both these quests and they were a lot of fun. Now any ol' Level 40 Pally or Lock can just pay out a few gold and get these mounts. They are meaningless. Same with the Druid epic flying form. My friend has a Druid and said this was the best questline she'd ever done. All they had to do was "modernize" things with regards to the dungeons you have to do.
Back to Azshara...I'm REALLY glad they've decided to use it. The OP is correct in that it was pretty much a useless hunk of land. It was almost as if Blizzard intended it for it to be used at some point but never got around to it. It really is a cool looking place, with the tall mountains and cliffs overlooking the ocean and the ruins all around. I look forward to questing there for real.

Problem is, a lot of Aszhara is being altered; for the Goblin city there is going to be a massive crater put in, the naga and some of the other area's are vanishing.... crap, need to get out there and start grinding for the blue whelp pet, it's going to be gone after expansion after all.

I have one been to Azshara once, for my infernal quest on my warlock. I really hate that place. It's boring, boring boring. I'm also glad they are redoing it, hopefully they can bump it up to it's full potential.. i mean it's one of the most lore signifigant places in the game. I really hope they make it interesting and move involving there.
