Am i likley to still do decent dps or am i going to get kicked for being to low?
In most cases, both. I can do 3k+ dps in my hateful/deadly gear, but one look at it and the group leader starts to give me the evil eye. Pve in it at your own risk.

skill means more than gear. If you can do 4k dps in your pvp gear while another has trouble getting to 3k in full pve gear then your doing your job right. Pve gear is of course superior and you should try and strive for the best gear for the job, but there is no shame in wearing some pvp gear if thats the best you can get atm.

The main problem with running heroics in pvp gear is lack of hit rating. You should be capped, or at least close to it to do max dps in pve.
That is not true, heroic bosses are much closer to the pvp cap than raid bosses are. IIRC a lvl 82 mob has a 5.4% chance to be missed (base 5% + .2% for each level above you). Assuming you're pvp capped at 4%, you're perfectly fine for heroics. And if your worried just throw on a
Hit Rating Trinket
.

I never really mind unless your spec is totally pvp focused. Alot of the new pvp gear is very good for pve. Not as good as pve gear obviously, but better than your alternative early which is most likely a bunch of crappy blues or whatever you could afford on the AH.

i see no problem with pvEing with some of your pvp pieces as long as you can still pump out some good numbers.
and if you're lacking hit, even for your pvp set, there are plenty of
hit rating pvp pieces
.
another speedbump you'll run into is expertise. and seing as how there are
no pvp expertise pieces
, you'll have to get your hands on some.

Instead you should run reg toc and get yourself a set of pve gear.
But yes you can run heroics in pvp gear and it would be fine if your
doing it with a guild but you will most likly get kicked from pugs.
I have been doing heroic toc since it came out and everyday i usally have a couple of dk/ret pally/warrior fully geared in pvp gear looking to do htoc when i first started out i was taking them along but 90% of them have no clue how to play there class in pve (Low dps/Not moving outta of whirlwind/poison spots). So now i only take people that look like they are trying i don't mind if you have on a pvp hit trinket or such but a full pvp set i will not invite. (Same goes for the people that just hit level 80 that day and are in quest greens that expect to jump right into a heroic like toc and be carried)
/End rant

wat.
I think you're confusing our chance to be
crit
by
a boss. Hitcap is still 8% pve, and as Audix was saying, rightly-so,
5%
is the pvp cap (for the most part).

That hitcap is for raid bosses.
It is completely unnecessary for heroics.
http://www.wowwiki.com/Hit#All_Level_80_Physical_DPS
* v. Level 80 mob: 5.0% / dual-wield: 24%
* v. Level 81 mob: 5.2% / dual-wield: 24.2%
* v. Level 82 mob: 5.4% / dual-wield: 24.4%
* v. Level 83 mob: 8.0% / dual-wield: 27%
As heroic bosses are lvl 82, the most hit you need is 5.4% (178 hit) (145 if you are/run with a blue cow)
Edit: If you have even just the ilvl 200 +hit pvp pieces
Ilvl 200 +hit pieces
And you put a:
Rigid King's Amber
in 1 slot.... you are now hit-capped for heroics.
Note: something is buggy with the links..... I can't seem to get them to work properly.
Finally got the links to work... the link button seems to be bugged.. had to find the format from my profile and do it manually... booooo

Play draenei much? ;p
Hit cap for PvP is 5%, assuming you're not fighting players above/below your level.
But your general point is correct, heroic bosses are MUCH closer to the pvp cap than boss mobs.
.
To the OP: 90% of the DPS out there are retarded scrubs, nobody is going to notice if you play like one.

One crappy dps can be carried by the other two, a crappy tank or healer can not be carried at all, well they can but by a excellent tank but even a great healer can not always make up for a really bad tank.
i have carried many crappy dps on my server and sometimes even two pretty average dps even in H toc. This is how i "think" if i am fine with carrying other dps when that time comes and my new char has hit 80 guess what i'm running heroics.
Fortunately i am one of these people who will do as much as i can to pull my own weight and am usually doing around 2k dps when i start heroics, i.e reading up on rotation's etc anything i can to pump out more dps and i don't slack off even in heroics.
So to the OP yes you can be carried through a heroic just fine even in pvp gear it just depends if the group leader is an ass or a decent person.
Running heroics I sometimes tell my guild how Im doing top DPS, acting all proud.
:)
They laugh when they find I'm tanking those heroics.
