Imo the hateful and deadly stuff is fine for heroics. There really isnt much that drops from normal instances, unless you are willing to wear a few cloth items. And as stated above the pvp set has sockets, so you can fill in any stat gaps where needed. Just find a group that wants to run a few of the easier heroics for your first items.

depends on the player tbh.
back when i first hit 80, quite a few of my resto buddies ran with the
Overcast
set, myself tanking with a few of the
Eviscerator
pieces, and we farmed heroics just fine.
skill always > gear

PvP gear is for PvP.
Thanks buddy, I would have never known!
As for you other two, thanks for the responses, glad i won't have to start at the very bottom at least.
Well....he has a point. You don't need crazy amounts of stamina and resilience as a raid healer, and that's what pvp gear has. It doesn't have enough of the haste or spirit/mp5 you need, nor do the set bonuses do anything for you. But yes, PVP gear is fine for heroics. But I would be careful about joining a raid with PVP pieces on. Most of the time, people that do this are seen as noobs and get flamed.
Why? Because PvP gear is for PvP
Yesterday I did hard-mode iron council wearing a pvp belt. It has 1.4% hit or something, it was the best I had. got new hardmode belt now. This was as a boomkin, and did 4k dps. I know it's not spectacular, but it was on par with others. Now that I think about it, running up to get a buff from circles he puts down, only to run away during aoe explosion just slowed the dps.... I do more in a heroic straight-forward fight.
My guess is that as a healer, you can perfectly well heal heroics in epic pvp gear. And depending on your tank's capabilities, a little hp may not be a bad thing.
