Level now to fight Lich King or wait for Cataclysm for new races and quests?

I'm really not sure which of these I should do, I'm not sure whether I should start new now in hopes of getting to Lich King or wait for Cataclysm for the new races and everything else that is going to change. In fact I'm not even sure how frigging long it takes just to gear up and from what I understand Lich King is meant to be the hardest boss of the WotLK expansion in the hardest instance soon to be in the game.
I have been hearing about rumours that Blizzard maybe introducing a race change system but you don't know if this will be true or not so I'm pretty messed what to do here but obviously it costs money to play WoW and I'm guessing it would cost money to change your characters race as well but why would you want to do that anyway if you don't want to see all the nice changes to the old world that will happen in Cataclysm. I don't know, it's annoying as hell.

Well glad this thread popped up as im considering starting on aswell. Normally i would keep playng on my prott warrior but i just recently started in a new class on a new school far from home. And since some people in my class(the only one who play WoW atm) plays ally i gotta roll a new toon to play with them. By what i got out from this post id say i got time to level a new toon to 80 before cataclysm hits, but since im considering trying out the new race/class combos i dont know if its worth starting out now since i probably would like a to level one of the new race/class combos....

You know there is faction change now, right?

btw just to reply to your message i aint payin for such and i still like the horde better, besides its time to create an alt :)
And yeah I still want a horde to change too when it gets to n00by around me
