What I do, in order:
Vampiric Touch
SW: Pain
Vampiric Embrace
Mind Blast
Mind Flay X2
(at this point, there is a good chance they're dead)
Mind Blast again, or if they're very low, SW: Death

The 'Helpful Topics - Read before posting!' Has the Anathema guide. Use that, it gives you itemisation tips, rotation tips etc.
Also, you should wait until shadow weaving reaches 5 stacks BEFORE applying SW:P for more damage.

I think most enemies will be dead by the time you get 5 stacks, or close enough that SW:P would be a waste of mana, no?

On trash mobs, or typical mobs you face in a daily encounter, SW:P can be skipped. It's very mana heavy.
Again, the sticky indicates more about Rotations, but as a rule of thumb; on longer fights, such as boss fights, wait until SW is on 5 stacks before applying SW:P.

I'll have to disagree, based on personal experience. Trying to kill something with only Mind Blast and Mind Flay seems awfully inefficient, time-wise. It's not like Shadow Priests have a lot of direct damage options, unless you're suggesting that he wand his way to victory.

I personally try to do good DPS while maintaining decent Mana.
On trash, I VT, DP, MB the main target. If there's more than 1, I SW:P the second and nuke the first. Works well enough...
On more than 4 Targets, VT, MB, DP, Mind Sear.
3 targets, I just multi-DoT and nuke them.
Bosses; VT, MB, DP, VE, MF, MB, SW:P, MF, MF, MB....Then refresh DoTs and use MB once they're off cooldown or have worn off. That fetches me pretty good DPS. But I suppose, each to their own...
Edit: We don't have many options for nuking, but sometimes we have to use GCDs on Burst damage. SW:D for burst/filling cooldowns/movement fights is great too.

Isn't Devouring Plague even more mana-hungry than SW:P? Anyway, as you said, to each their own.

This
is the definitive ruling on how to DPS as Shadow.
As far as trash goes....who cares it's trash.
As far as questing/grinding/dailies go....who cares, do what you want.
The OP asked about raid dps. Click the link and have learning flow towards thee.
