Don't worry about what's needed right now like how you said someone said Warlocks are, a year from now they might not be. I like melee classes so I would pick rogue of those two.
Also, don't worry about getting heirlooms either. By time Cataclysm is out you should have alot and you can just spend them then.
Edit: I like ZoraLink's idea... And he makes me want to play a game...
