You roll a class because you love a certain playstyle, the rotations and types of gear and they change it all up on you every year or so.
It keeps things fresh. If all I got to do was press 1, 1, 2, 1, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1, 3 (etc) while looking at a different colored dragon and having progressively bigger and bigger numbers appear on my screen; that would be pretty boring.
It's a constant re-tooling so that we get fun new abilities, different ways to arrange gear. It makes things better, like merging Healing and Spell Damage into one Spell Power and thus trimming the bloated loot tables that had very very specific gear (oh, there's no holy priest in the raid? DE that gear).
Just roll with the punches, you'll be happier.

i think the changes sound fantastic.
it looks like the content being added will pretty much equal either of the previous expansions and the core mechanic changes aren't being done to simply provide something to change but are being done to simplify a bloated and over-complicated system.
we need a full sticky just addressing stats and the benefit that each stat gives (and the order of priority those benefits boil down to) change with every new tier of gear or slight change to any spell. it takes a lot of research for any of us to keep abreast of current mechanics and loot ranking sites are becoming more and more popular for very good reasons.
clearly the game is becoming more complicated and this ethos runs counter to most of blizzard's goals with the game.
i know some will bemoan this simplification and will call it "dumbing down" but i really believe that it's a change that is in the game's best interests.

not dead no, just without internet... so almost as bad.
not sure about the rolling on same gear thing. i think it was GC that described their aim as like rets, warriors and DKs have currently with plate strength gear. if this implementation gets spread to other gear classes i can only see that being a good thing. interesting though that they're reintroducing clear-cut healing gear with the changes to spirit.

Yeah, so ele shaman, boomkins and spriests will now likely need a second gear set to off-heal.

well, i agree that it's nice getting a piece of gear that is specific to you (your class etc.) and that seeing a healing priest in the same looking gear as my warlock seems odd you have to admit that much more of the gear that drops is useful now than it ever used to be.
of course if you run your ulduar raid through naxx you'll DE everything but that point where gear starts getting DEd is far more clear cut now as the gear almost always finds a use (in on and off sets) until everyone is fully kitted out.
i suppose i generally agree with blizz that a trend toward homogenization is the lesser of the two evils if those are your only two choices and i'm sure tier gear will continue to give each class it's own unique look.

ah i see.
well, as i understood it, it sounded like they were testing the idea on the latest tier of content to see if it was something worth carrying on. sadly for you i imagine it's considered a positive change for most and is pretty likely to stick around though the later tiers of each expansion do seem to follow different rules than the prior ones so it might not be set in stone just yet.
