When BC came out WoW entered a new era of PvP. Arena was an extremely fun and competitive way of gameplay. Making arena teams to match other classes strengths and weaknesses was both fun and challenging.
When WotLK came out everything BC had worked for was removed. In the paladins Q&A a questioned was asked about paladins ability to enter and leave combat. Ghostcrawler said, "Players are pretty good at detecting problems, but for solutions they tend to just look around at what other classes have that is working for them.
Homogenization is something we fight as much as we can
, which is the reason not every class has Death Grip and not every class has Charge. Judgment of Justice is intended to be the gap-closer for paladins. If it becomes a huge liability, we’ll evaluate, but at the moment paladins are doing extremely well in PvP".
Yet Homogenization is the main thing Blizzard did to WoW in WotLK.
Affliction warlocks were survivability and good damage, but little burst. Now they're burst.
Frost mages had major CC and excellent snares/roots. Now they can burst with mirror images, and arcane works in arena now for great burst.
Ret Pallys has excellent survivability and small amount of CC, and great support. Now they only have burst and minor CC
Enhancement Shamans used to have amazing support, and good burst. Now their support is only minor.
WotLK has done nothing but remove support from PvP, and increase burst. Every class uses burst in arena and actually seeing low burst classes in rare. Arena teams no longer need to think up a combo. Rogues in 2s can go with almost any class. And classes no longer have chemistry. Shamans used to be excellent with melee cause of WF, now they're only BL. A class is only decided now on 4 things, Ranged, melee, 50% less healing, CC.
Since it's too late in WotLK to fix this, cataclysm is blizzards last shot at making classes unique.

Let me counter you. With the removal of all the boring talents (the ones with passive increase to stats), every class should get pretty unique talents. But you have to understand that there is a limited number of solutions to a given problem. As well as limited time to solve it, and limited number of people to work on it.

What? Arena is reserved for a few of Blizzards pet classes.

There was a huge difference between season 1 and the others BC arena seasons.
