Leveling and Mana Issues

Am I the only one with mana issues? I had a problem with pet aggro before (even spec'ed BM) but have resolved that issue when I got an ape pet. Now the persistent issue is still mana.
I seem to run oom after ever 3rd or 4th kill, having to either drink or use the Aspect of the Viper. Is this common? I'm basically only using Serpent Sting, Arcane Shot, and Multi Shot. What's going on? Are hunter abilities this expensive (reminds me of leveling a mage)? I even have a couple of BoA Items, like the mana returning trinket, but it doesn't help.
Should I:
Hunt without using many special abilities
Drink every few kills
Sub in Aspect of the Viper
Combo of the above?
Edit: Here's my
Hunter

While leveling you are gonna have mana issues. My suggests, don't use SS unless you are fighting an elite. Use AotV for a mob and/or before you mount up and you will be back to full mana.

After recently going through the leveling process myself, I can say that: yar, you're going to have mana issues. And big ones at time. It seems pretty silly, but in order to speed up the process (and keep myself out of AotV / drinking), you're just going to have to do a combination of the things you outlined. Use less specials (SS, for instance), pop into Viper while travelling between mobs, etc. By the end of it, I wasn't drinking at all, but was spending a wee bit more time than I would have liked in Viper.
And besides, your pet is your pew-pew tool while leveling anyways. You're just along for the ride.

While leveling you arent nessesarily wearing ideal gear--you might be wearing whatever drops, or whatever you can find on the AH. At lower levels there really isnt a whole lot of gear with both agility and intellect, for example.
I dont know what BoAs you are using, but you can get them enchanted too--which might help.
Your chest you could get with +3 or +4 stats (+4 is pretty rare), or Mana per 5 (I think 5Mp5?).
Assuming you are dual wielding the daggers, you could get both with int enchant (and spec into careful aim) or get one with agility and one with int (and still spec into careful aim--once you can spare the points from the BM tree).
Getting some int enchants (or stat or Mp5 enchants) on gear you wont replace is a worth-while investment, and it will help with your mana pool, so you wont need to regenerate as much mana.

I might be wrong but i thought mp5 was useless for hunters

I was enchanting my BoA gear with mainly dps boosting stats. Wouldn't changing it to pure mana just allow me to fire off a few more specials, but take longer to regen mana? Haven't heard of hunters geming for Int or Mana either.

Depends on how you look at it. For endgame, yes, because there are always so many better stats you can get. However, it does regenerate mana--its not like the enchant is "mana per 5 for everyone except hunters" so it works, its just that there are often better options.
For chest enchants that work on BoA gear, however, the best available is +4 stats, which is a very rare enchant that dropped in AQ40--hard to find an enchanter with it, and they tend to charge a lot, because it is a popular enchant for twinks. I paid 400g for it on my twink.
Then there is +3 stats, or 100 health (which shouldn't be needed with pet tanking, and is rather expensive), or 100 mana , or 50 health (again, pet tank), or 65 mana, or 30 mana.
I was wrong though, I thought there was a mana per 5 enchant, but apparently not, the item level needs to be 35. So I would go with 100 or 65 mana, as the most useful chest enchant. 100 mana at a low level is quite substantial
But mana per 5 works for hunters, it is just often not a useful stat

Use Aspect of the Hawk until you run out of mana and then switch to Viper and regen it all back. It's basically non-stop questing if you don't mind your damaged hacked by 40% that viper now bestows upon you when active.
Forgive me for possibly beating a dead horse, but are you using multi-shot against single targets? I've seen people use it simply because it's another instant cast. Be warned that it costs almost twice the mana that arcane does.
I find the only time I ever used multi shot was after I learned misdirect.
Once you hit lvl 50 and get steady shot, your gameplay will be revolutionized. When I go OOM, even at level 80, switch on viper and steady shot 9-10 times and I'm back to full again and my DPS isn't hurting too bad at all. :)

I've got a hunter at 49 right now that I'm leveling and have a few rules I follow to make my mana last longer.
Low HP mobs I just hit them with 1 arcane shot and then let auto finish them off.
Medium HP mobs I'll use 1 - 2 arcane shots depending on what their HP is like after it's cooled down (over 40% I hit them again).
High HP mobs I usually use serpent sting and then just let auto finish them off.
I will go OOM after about 15 mobs like that. It is a little slower than throwing everything you have at them of course but you still kill mobs in about 10 - 15 seconds tops.
When you are OOM put viper on and kill a mob with normal shots, which should regen most of your mana then carry on killing as normal.
Also, if I get the opportunity, I'll gather up about 8 - 12 melee mobs and volley them down, switch to viper for a single mob then gather up a large group again. That only works at lvl 44 though once your pet can learn thunderstomp.
It's probably not the fastest way to level but I never have to drink and still kill mobs at a decent pace.

I NEVER have mana issues, heres what to do... spec BM, get a pet like Devilsaur... keep aspect of the viper on all the time. I kill things extremely fast with viper on too..... Just keep viper on all the time and your good to go... Btw your rotation sucks, use this... Serpent sting, steady shot/arcane shot till dead.

I was successfully aoe grinding Corins Crossing (average lvl mob is lvl56-57) in EPL for about a hour with 0 down time at lvl54 last night. Im BM specced and left up AotBeast instead of Hawk. When I started going OOM I just switched to Viper for a few pulls till full and back to Beast. I used Arcane Shot and Steady Shot all the time and threw in a few Volleys. Gorilla pet had no problems at all holding 4-5 mobs aggro at all times. At one time I just stayed in AotV and threw up Mend whenever needed and plowed through the entire area, only thing that stopped me was running out of arrows haha.
