If not...DEATH FROM ABOVE. Ganking nooblets in Elwynn forest just got more fun.
You aren't marked for pvp in starting zones. Only retards who marked themselves will be ganked in Elwynn, and they deserve it.

"There isn't any plan to prevent ganking in the contested zones of Azeroth, even with flying mounts available here. This is just part of being on a PvP server."

My proposal, from a while back:
When NPCs are killed by cross-faction players, they come back with a stacking buff that gives them about 10 levels. No limit.
So. Kill a level 40 guard, he comes back as a level 50 guard with at least a half hour before his buff wears off. Kill him at 50, he comes back at 60.
Eventually, your XR raid is facing a level 90 butcher and some level 95 guards, and you die.

I'm going to have to agree with the GTFO of the PvP server idea.
Like stated many times, if you don't want your ass handed to you, either reroll, transfer or bring your main.

Far from twinked. 4 of us were power-lvling together on a brand new server (wowhead or bust if you remember the thread). We got several 70+'s (you can tell because of the abilities they use), rogue would stunlock them giving us a good 6 or so seconds to nuke. I'm not saying it always worked, but we were able to down several.
And if lvl 40s are just standing in a lvl 80's aoe, there's something wrong with them.
From experience in STV at level 40ish, when my friends and I attacked a 70 in bc or 80 now it looked about like this.... miss miss miss dodge miss miss 103 miss miss 172 miss miss dodge.
That is some extreme luck you got going for you.
This. To be honest, if I decide to gank you on my Prot pally, you've got no chance. The moment I see you, I'll wipe three of you with an Avenger's Shield. Even if you jump me, I can just trinket, Holy Shield and sit there and laugh as you kill yourselves. Hell, even a Retribution Aura or a Druid's Thorns would kill you faster than you'd kill me. Even if L40s could produce 400dps, you'd need at least 10 seconds to wipe a L80 player, if he just stood there.
If I go on a ganking spree, I can dismount, AS someone, remount and fly off, and find someone on the next map to gank by the time AS comes off CD. 330% flying with Crusader Aura? You could escape with a flight to the next town, and I'd have gotten there first and killed the flight master by the time you touchdown.

Not everyone has a main. All things considered, Blizz want to recruit more players. Making it that much easier for new players to be ganked at L20 in levelling areas isn't going to do much for recruitment. So irrespective of what it means for us, it's a bad business decision for Blizzard. Just like L20 mounts is a good business decision for Blizz.
I would prefer that guards are levelled up to make safe zones a bit fairer. The idea that you can just bring a main along to beat up on someone is pointless, especially with today's 1.5sec mount cast times.

Honestly I wish they would bring back the penalties for killing people that are way under your level
There is a reason why Blizz got rid of that, so people could do city raids and stuff.
back then with dishonor, a lowbie could just jumpo right into an AoE and that player would get dishonor, it was disastress
You could change that by allowing dishonor, and having exceptions to the dishonor rules in major cities, World Arenas, etc. Maybe you can only get dishonor if they're a target?

I don't like this phasing thing too much. I can't help my lower level friends if this happens. They've already stated that they plan to introduce a way for people to temporarily re-enter an old phase if they are grouped with someone who is in that phase.
No reason not to like phasing once this one (very minor) problem goes away.

By rolling on a PvP server, you are automaticly agreeing to this type of treatment (ganking) wether it be 1 time or a hundred times. If you don't like it, go PvE and quit whining.

That doesn't really solve the issue, does it?
Squishalot: WTB group invite for ganking, will pay!
Also, does that mean that 80s on defense will also need to be in a group to see the phased 80s doing the ganking? It's questionable whether the phasing system proposed will actually work.

Sheesh, what is it with people who assume that a statement of fact is suddenly whining?
I have a main 80 on a PvP server. I will happily wipe the floor with anyone who challenges me in world PvP without a second thought. And if you attack my alt repeatedly, then so help me, I will bring the fury of the Light down upon you and take you down. I won't be shedding any tears over your corpse.
But as I said, it represents a bad business decision for Blizzard. Given the player churn and recover rates, as a business person, I would rather #$%^ off a bunch of established players by handing out mounts to every man and his dog, and wait for them to return with their tails between their legs in two patches time, than remove my source of new business.
There's a difference between someone going "OMFG GANKERS SUCK I F#CKING HATE BLIZZ!", and someone going "hey look, think it through, maybe it's not that good an idea". Like I said right from the outset
on the very first page
- I'm not qq'ing over the idea, I just don't think the consequences have been fully thought through.

A couple ways to handle this:
1) You can only initiate PvP in a level-appropriate or higher zone. If you're level 70, you can only initiate PvP in a level 60-70 zone or higher. If you're level 80 you can only initiate PvP in a level 70-80 zone. If somebody of much lower level wanders in there, they're on their own, just like they would be against the mobs in that zone.
2) Put a cooldown on being able to mount up after killing a player more than 10 levels lower than you. Making people wait 5 minutes after a kill would eliminate the kill+fly away strategy. No actual debuff, so you can still fight effectively if you have to. This would take away the capital city raid issue, since I assume flying in capitals isn't going to be allowed anyway.

QFT.
People are always complaining about gankers when they play on a damn PvP server. If you want to be more selective about world PvP fights, then just don't be on a PvP server.
I think Blizzard should allow free server transfers for a brief period at some point, so people who dislike "too much" world PvP have the option to leave without having to pay.
Me personally. I can't wait for more world PvP.
Hold on, let's draw a line here.
Ganking vs 'World PvP'
World PvP, as was intended by the developers, is PvP between characters of roughly equivalent level (using the green/yelllow/orange/red/skull system). Two bits of evidence to support this:
1) Honor is only earned for killing targets at a similar level (green and up); and
2) Dishonor was previously earned for killing targets much lower level than you.
The intention was then, and still is now, is for similar level characters to enage in combat while completing their quest objectives. So if I'm L26 running along in Hillsbrad in pursuit of a mountain lion, and a L29 rogue sprints after me and attacks me, that's World PvP.
Ganking commenced as a result of the changes to dishonor (necessitated by lower level characters dying as collateral in city raids). It was a side effect designed to protect high level characters from unintentional dishonor, rather than to legitimise the assasinations of lower level targets.
Blizzard never intended 70s and 80s to go around sniping off L20-30 targets in Southshore/Tarren Mill. Nothing's changed. So instead of saying "MOAR QQ GTFO" like a 12 yr old brat, actually think about what the changes mean and whether they'll work the way they're intended to. Of course, if you are a 12 yr old brat, then feel free to GTFO.

From the WoW Q&A at Blizzcon 2009:
11:02AM How will flying mounts and contested zones play together with all of the ganking potential? Chilton: "Well... you could play on a PvE server."
11:03AM Chilton isn't too worried about it, ganking is just part of PvP servers. If you don't like ganking (which happens without flying mounts already) you can play PvE.

Intention and "oh crap... we didn't think of that..." are two completely different things. The hesitation speaks for itself. If it was intended, Chilton would have said something along the lines of "Well tough cookies, ganking exists at the moment, and we have no problems with that increasing with flying mounts in Azeroth."
Thanks for the quote, btw. As I've said repeated times, from a personal perspective, I really don't care, but from a Blizzard perspective, I think they're doing the wrong thing. That quote practically screams that it's an issue they haven't dealt with yet.
Edit: That's taken from Malgayne's twitter feed, isn't it? "Chilton isn't too worried about it" - is exactly a non-developer trying to speak for a developer. Still fail?
