Piracy fills the demand for markets that refuse to supply (e.g. regional releases), that is zero price.
Would you like to know more?
But would you agree for pirates to be shut down from supplying to areas where a legitimate version has been released?
Unless the illegitimate product differs from it's legitimate counterpart in content and function, they are the same thing. You are completely right: it is simply a different way of looking at the sitiuation. You're describing the situation from a market analysts position, me as Joe Schmuk, for arguments' sake.
The issue is, from a Joe Schmuk point of view, it's clear that pirates are doing the wrong thing by copying someone else's product and giving it away for free. If Joe Schmuk writes a cool piece of software and puts it up for sale, is he going to be happy getting nothing when people pirate it for free?

Piracy from my point of view.
Music: I'm using Sporify at the moment, Spotify has most of the songs I want and because of that I'm happy with paying 10£ or what ever it is a month. Their player is decent, they have a phone app and they enable offline playlist. Generally just a good service in my opinion.
Games: Games is probably the only thing I will never illegally download, the reason behind this is that I want to support the industry. I don't feel like illegally downloading a game, I want to keep the company running.
Movies: I download them. In my opinion the price of a movie is rediculous, for 5 movies I could probably get a game that will last me 10 times their duration and has better story. With that being said, I almost never watch movies since I have other ways to waste my time.
Books: nty, prefer the material thing. And there's no way of pirating a material copy of a book.

Here
is an article that should spark some discussion. It's a piece on the KKK wanting to adopt a highway, and it's an interview with one of their higher ups trying to explain that they're not racist.
I will say I was surprised that there are only 4000-5000 members in the KKK nationally. They're the go to standard of racism in the US, and They make news relatively often, for such a small group. I just thought there were more of them.

I already posted a similar article the other day. There wasn't much discussion on it.
However, I don't feel that the KKK is the "go to standard of racism in the US". The KKK is quite different from most racism in the US. It is ostracized. Consider how much of a stir is caused when they want to adopt a highway. They are racist, but they are not standard. On the other hand, the Congressional Black Caucus, and NAACP are both racist organizations, and represent socially acceptable and standard practices. Affirmative action, and reverse racism are the standard. There is this push to be racist against the races that have been racist in the past to make things "fair". I think racism shouldn't be used as a tool for evening a playing field. I don't think racism should be used for anything.

I meant that when discussing racism in the USA, the most common example used, by far, is the KKK.
But I do agree with you that hiring someone because of their race, especially if they're not the most qualified candidate, is a step backwards in dealing with racism in the country, because in reinforces the notion that you should group people by race. I don't mind organizations that celebrate different cultural backgrounds and heritages- I do have an issue when they have racial requirements for membership. I've been in cultural clubs that weren't my own background, and it was fun to learn about other countries, foods, music, etc. I don't think it's any more fair for them to exclude members based on race than for organizations that are white only.
I think one ridiculous application of affirmative action are when they lower the physical requirements of dangerous professions so that more women can pass the test. If you cannot lift a large person out of a building, you shouldn't be a firefighter- that's stupid. If you cannot meet the necessary physical standards to be a police officer, and couldn't apprehend an athletic or stronger than average criminal, you shouldn't be a cop. I don't care if that leaves less women in these professions- it's stupid to put other people's lives in danger so that you can "give everyone a chance." I'm sure that there are some women who can meet these requirements, and I don't think they should be excluded if they do, but to lower the standards and risk lives is such an obviously bad idea, I don't know how it passed into law.

Copyright holders are coming after more of your rights!
The US Supreme Court will soon hear a case that will affect whether you can sell your iPad -- or almost anything else -- without needing to get permission from a dozen "copyright holders."
Here is what's going on.
The Supreme Court case concerns something called the "first-sale doctrine" in copyright law. Simply put, the doctrine means that you can buy and sell the stuff you purchase. Even if someone has copyright over some piece of your stuff, you can sell it without permission from the copyright holder because the copyright holder can only control the "first-sale." The Supreme Court has recognized this doctrine since 1908.
To use a classic example, imagine you buy a novel by Sabina Murray. Sabina owns the copyright to the book, so you can't make a copy of the book. But you bought a copy of the book, and can sell the copy to anyone who'll pay you for it. You can sell it to a neighbor, to a fellow student, or to someone else on Craigslist or on eBay.
But the first-sale rule doesn't just make it possible to sell your books and other creative works like CDs, paintings, or DVDs. Almost every product made now has a copyright logo on it. That logo, alone, empowers manufacturers to sue people for copyright infringement for unlawful sales.
The first-sale doctrine is one thing that makes it lawful to sell almost any good. The companies that have gone to court and sued over selling their "copyrights" include a watchmaker and shampoo producer. They have gone to court arguing that one part of the Copyright Act -- which gives them a right against unauthorized imports -- invalidates the first-sale doctrine.
Both the District and Second Circuit courts held that any product manufactured abroad is not subject to the first-sale doctrine. For instance, that iPad you sold. You noticed this statement: "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China." Same for the iPods you've owned, the iPhones, and the MacBooks. Because those products were manufactured abroad, according to the Second Circuit, the first-sale doctrine doesn't apply to them. You need the permission of every copyright holder to sell the iPad.
That means, you need to ask Apple for permission, and probably Google, whose Maps software comes bundled with the iPad, and includes Google copyrights. Under this rule, when you sell some of your stuff on eBay or Craigslist (a couch, some books, electronics, posters, an old television, a toaster), you have to look up whether it has a copyrighted logo anywhere and find out whether the product was manufactured in the U.S. or abroad.
Scary stuff. I wonder when people are going to stop defending these people, they're actually trying to get it written into law that the things you own aren't really yours. You can sign a petition
here
which goes to Obama and Congress to express you views on this legislation.
And for those of you who don't see anything wrong with this: don't you think this is going to make companies less likely to operate in America so they have better legal protection?
The Atlantic
.
Yeah; that is completely and utterly insane.

This. I'll download music, I can get books for free (it's called a library) and I work at a theater, so I can see pretty much any new movie for free.
However, I refuse to download video games.

I honestly don't download most video games for the simple fact that a lot of the newest console emulators suck heh; but for the blasts from the past, such as the SNES, Genesis and NES, I don't have that much of an issue playing them on my computer, since finding actual working consoles of those are nearly impossible.

That didn't last very long.
The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's largest Islamist party, said SCAF leaders were taking matters into their own hands "against any true democracy they spoke of."
Yeah, you know its bad when The Muslim Brotherhood...a borderline terrorist organization is calling foul.
